His power keeps us tangled.
And every time I try to pull away... I want him even more.

ALESSANDRO
I woke up before she did, not all at once but gradually, like my body registered her before my mind caught up to it, the weight of her against me, the steady rhythm of her breathing, the quiet warmth that hadn't been there the night before.
For a second, I didn't move.
I just looked at her. I tried to memorize her facial features and slowed breath before the doomed feeling that would arise once she wakes up. Morning light had already started slipping through the windows, soft enough to settle over her without disturbing anything, and she looked different like this, not guarded, not thinking three steps ahead, not preparing to leave before she had to.
Just... still.
My hand shifted slightly against the couch, careful, controlled, but it was enough.
She stirred.
Her breathing changed first, then the small movement of her head, like she was trying to place where she was without fully waking up yet, and when her eyes finally opened, I saw it happen in real time—the recognition, the pause, the moment where everything from last night came back at once.
She pulled back. Not dramatically, not enough to make it obvious to anyone else, but enough.
"Morning," she said, her voice quieter than usual, like she hadn't decided what tone she wanted yet. "Good Morning."
I didn't comment on it. Didn't mention the way she had been leaning into me, the way she moved away from it now like it hadn't meant anything, because I could already see the shift happening, the walls rebuilding themselves piece by piece.
Too fast.
But expected.
"You sleep well?" I asked, pushing myself up slightly, giving her space without making it obvious that I was doing it. She hesitated for a second, just enough for me to notice.
"Yeah," she said, brushing her hands over her clothes like she was resetting herself, like she could smooth the moment out if she moved enough. "Yeah, I did."
She stood up right after, a little too quick to be casual, stretching her arms like she needed a reason to move, and I let her, watching without making it obvious.
"Do you have coffee?" she asked, already turning toward the kitchen before I answered. "Sí."
I followed her, keeping my distance, not close enough to corner her, not far enough to feel removed from it, and moved around the kitchen like it was routine, starting the coffee without asking, pulling things together without thinking. She watched me.
