"Jhené" Y/N stood up with Jhené and followed behind Jhené as they followed the nurse towards their assigned room. "I'm just going to get some vitals and take some notes for the doctor." The nurse explains as they walked into the exam room. Jhené nods her head as she took a seat and Y/N took a seat in the corner. Y/N leans back as she watches the nurse take Jhené's vitals.
"Alright, can you tell me a little bit why you're here today?" The nurse asks. "I think- Well I know that I'm pregnant but I want to confirm it. I also am curious as to why I am pregnant if I have the birth control that goes in my cervix." Jhené explains. The nurse nods her head before writing down everything that Jhené had told her. "I'll make sure the doctor gets these concerns and I'll bring in a sonogram machine once the doctor finishes talking to you. There may be a need for a pap smear so he can see why the IUD might have failed." The nurse explains. Jhené nods her head before the nurse leaves the room.
"I thought you were just taking the pill?" Y/N questions. "I was but I knew we were way too active for me to rely on the pill. Mila told me about the IUD and thought it might be the best option for us with us not using protection and you not pulling out." Jhené explains. Y/N nods her head. Y/N rubbed her hands on the pants as she felt them start to sweat as the reality of them having a baby started to set in. "Hey, come here." Jhené speaks softly. Y/N stood up and stepped between Jhené's legs. "We're in this together. We got this." Jhené speaks. Y/N nods her head before leaning down and pressing their lips together for a quick kiss. 'We got this" Y/N whispers.
Y/N steps back before taking a seat as the doctor knocks on the door and walks into the room. "Hello, I'm Dr. Morgan. Can you tell me your name and birth date." The doctor asks as she looks down at the paper work for Jhené. "Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo and my birthday is March 16, 1990." Jhené speaks. (She is only 18 in this so I moved her birthday forward 2 years because it is only 2008 in this book's timeline.)
"So what, brings you in today?" The doctor asks. "I have the IUD and have had it for about over a year now but I took a couple of pregnancy tests and about 6 of them came back positive and 3 of them came back negative. I just want to confirm that I'm pregnant but I want to know why my birth control failed." Jhené explains. "I see and are you a family member?" The doctor asks. "I'm her girlfriend and baby daddy..." Y/N speaks. Jhené smiles at the look of pride on Y/N's face as she spoke. "Intersex?" The doctor asks with a smile. "Yes ma'am." Y/N nods her head. "Let's go ahead and get started with doing an ultrasound to see if you are pregnant. If you are pregnant, we are going to have to remove your IUD to prevent any damage to the baby. Are you okay with that?" Dr. Morgan asks. "Yes ma'am" Jhené agrees. "Perfect, give me a few minutes and I will be right back." Dr. Morgan smiles before leaving the room.
Jhené looks at Y/N with a small smile as she places her hands on her stomach. "I know there's a baby inside me." Jhené speaks. "A mother knows best... So my mother says." Y/N smiles as she stands up and walks over to Jhené and reaches forward and pressing her hand against Jhené's stomach. "I want to keep them." Jhene states. Y/N couldn't fight back her smile as she nods her head. "Okay, let's do this." Y/N couldn't stop smiling at the words. Her face heating up when Jhené lets out a laugh at Y/N's happiness. "I've been thinking of names and I like one that would work for a girl and a name for a boy." Y/N speaks again. "What's that?" Jhené questions. "Himari for a girl and Kimari for a boy." Y/N says. Jhené feels her body heat up and what she felt was her heart fluttering at Y/N's support.
Himari means sunflower or sun or light... It was the name that stuck out the most for me. I know that you want to stick to your roots and wanted Japanese names so Himari is one. Kimari means joy and moonlight. In Swahili it means divine gift. Just from looking these up. They stood out to me and I thought you might like them." Y/N shrugs at the end with a smile. Her face turning red as she explains why she liked the name. "I love you Y/N/N" Jhené speaks. Her eyes tearing up and Y/N's hand goes up to Jhené's face and caresses her cheek. "I love you too and thank you." Jhené looks at Y/N confused. "For what?" She questions.
"Having my baby. I know it's too soon to assume anything but you're allowing your body to change to bring our baby into this world. It makes me respect and love you even more that you're sacrificing your body to bring a baby into this world. Thank you baby." Y/N speaks. She leans down and presses a kiss to Jhené's lips. "I'm scared that this is going to affect our careers..." Jhené speaks. "I don't want you worrying about that. I want your focus on the baby and I will handle the rest. We got this." Y/N responds. Jhené nods her head before they turn to the door when the doctor walks in with the ultrasound machine.
"Alright, lets have you lay back and lift your shirt." Dr. Morgan smiles as she washes her hands before putting gloves on. She grabs the gel container and squirts a little onto Jhene's stomach before rubbing it around. "So the ultrasound is not going to show much with how early you may be. Let's see if we can get a heart beat. If not, I'll take a blood test and we will be able to confirm your pregnancy." Dr. Morgan explains. She moves around the handheld devices and moves it around as she looks for any sign of life. "Right there" The doctor points to the smallest speck. "That right there is your baby." The doctor confirms. "Wow" Y/N sighs out as she stares at the little speck. "Are you sure? I don't want to get my hopes up." Y/N looks at the doctor. Her breathing picking up as she waits for an answer. "That is your baby. Congratulations! I can have my nurse get you some dates for check ups and get you a list of vitamins and prenatals for you to take. We want to keep you and baby healthy so no smoking or drinking or stressing. Right now is the crucial time to avoid stress as it can lead to miscarriage and we don't want that. I'm going to have to remove your IUD. Are you comfortable with me doing that today?" Dr. Morgan asks. "Yes please" Jhené speaks.
Time Skip
Y/N bounces towards her dad's garage as she was going to help him with the Nissan again. "What's got you all hyped" Paul asks as he smiles at Y/N. "I'm having a baby" Y/N cheeses. Her cheeks hurting from all the smiling she's been doing since she found out they were going to be parents. They owned their condo, they had well paying careers, and she's having a baby with the love of her life. She was the happiest she's ever been. "What? A baby? Since when? How do you feel?" Paul laughs as he looks at Y/N who couldn't contain her happiness.
"Man... I don't know how to explain the feeling but I just know that I'm excited. We confirmed a few days ago. She's almost about 7 weeks along. This is the woman I grew up with and have loved since 5th grade man. She's blessing me with having my baby. She's scared that her singing career will fail but I talked to Jay and he told me not to stress about it. He promised that her next album will be on him as a congrats to us. I put my money away for any emergencies and we will still be making songs but I don't want her stressing. The doctor told her that this is the most crucial time to avoid stress because she can miscarry the baby. I just want her to be safe and healthy... Both of them." Y/N leans back on the car and looks at her dad.
"I wish I was as mature as you are in this situation. I'm proud of you and you don't have to worry about finances. You know your mom and I got you if you ever need it. You are very hard working and I know she is proud of you and is just as excited to experience this with you. Looks like we're going to have to swap this Nissan out for a baby safe car." Paul wraps an arm around Y/N's shoulder and pulls her close. "You got this. You're already doing a lot better than most people your age and damn better than most men that find out that they're having a baby. Don't stress yourself out trying not to stress her out. You are in a relationship and both of you should take care of each other." Paul pulls back before handing Y/N her mechanic overalls. "Now let's get to work." Paul says.
