Chapter Nineteen - The Necklace Of Invisibility
Laughter filled the air as a handful of cheeky a mischievous children ran up and down the cobbled path, giggling away as they rampaged around, causing Jade and Leroy to take a step either side so the children could run past.
"Bloody kids." Leroy scowled.
"Don't be such a grumpy-guts, they're just children. You were their age once, remember?"
"Yeah, but I swear kids are getting cockier and so much more annoying than they used to be."
"So you don't want any when you're older then?" Jade asked.
"Jade. I'm 19 years old." He replied as he kicked a loose stone from the path. "I don't think about that kind of...stuff. I'm not as old as you are."
Jade shook her head and laughed.
"Lee. We're not even a whole year apart."
"Okay...fine...so let's say I did have kids. Their mum would still have to live up to my...shall we say...high expectations."
"Oh really?" She chuckled sarcastically.
"Most definitely."
"So you do want children?"
"No. I hate them." Leroy answered to little too bluntly, catching Jade by surprise. "Why? Do you want one?"
Jade thought for a moment as she continued to stroll down the path.
"I'd like to think that one day I'll have children of my own, yes."
"Ha. You know you'd have to actually talk to a guy first before doing anything like that, right?" Leroy sniggered.
"Shut up." She growled back, fully aware that he was taking the mick out of her lack of social skills.
The two of them continued to walk down the path until they came to a recognisable dead end. They peered over the fence and gazed upon a large, dark cave across the beach. They were finally there.
Cats Cove.
"No time like the present." Jade cheered as she rubbed her hands together. Taking a step up to the fence, she placed both hands on top of it and hopped over with ease.
"You're quite the dexterous one aren't you?" Leroy chuckled as she regained her balance on the other side of the fence.
With a smile and a shrug, Jade stood patiently waiting for Leroy to get across.
"Well? Come on then."
"Yeah...I'm coming." Leroy replied as he eyed up the fence. He wasn't much of a 'free-runner'. He had never cleared anything higher than a metre in his entire life. So no wonder he was a little anxious about this.
