I was absolutely sure my hair had never been that light before. I slowly reapproached the mirror, running my hands through my platinum blonde hair. It was longer, swinging straighter than ever, stopping gracefully at my hips.
What could have possibly caused this? Surely somebody would have noticed? Well, Dad certainly wouldn't have, he's not around enough to notice those subtle changes. But why hadn't Mom noticed?
Leaning so far forward that my nose was almost pressed up against the streak-free glass of the mirror, I examined my face.
The freckles that used fleck my pale face were gone, and my skin had darkened dramatically to a light olive tone.
My eyes were wide, a brighter shade of green than I'd ever seen on anybody.
I brought a hand up to my lips, attempting to reassure myself that the deep red was just from the lights. All of it is just a product of poor lighting. But somehow I knew that it wasn't, and all of it was me, and I felt a hint of glee because of it.
"What is happening to me?" I choked out, stepping away from the mirror.
"You're changing." A voice stated from behind me, and I nearly jumped out of my skin in fright.
Luckily, I was never much of a screamer. I spun around to meet the eyes of a man who could've been my father, with their matching blonde curls and blue eyes.
He stood frighteningly tall, towering over my 5'1 form. His eyes were as bright as my own, his skin a dark olive.
"What do you mean?" I whispered, taking a slow step away from the bathroom door.
"I mean you're becoming like us. Changing." He smiled, revealing a set of perfectly white teeth.
"What are you exactly?" I felt my calves press up against the cool porcelain of the tub and stopped.
"You'll find out in good time." He said seriously. "Boys."
Kyle and Andy stepped out from behind the man as he backed away from the door.
"You!" I gasped, my hand going to my throat in surprise.
"Yes, us." Kyle nodded, stepping forward with his hand raised in a peace-making gesture.
I eyed it warily, as if it was something that could hurt me. Which it very well could be. I'd never spoken to him before in my life, who knew what he would want.
When he stepped forward, I felt my lips pull back from my teeth slightly, a low growl clawing it's way out of my throat. As soon as the sound left my mouth Kyle froze, his face blank.
I could feel my eyes widen, and I immediately pressed a hand to my lips, stifling the sobs working their way out of my throat.
What is happening to me?
I sunk down to the cold tiles, hugging my knees to my chest.
"I'm not going to hurt you. We want to help." Kyle said softly, crouching down beside me.
"Help?" I questioned, the word barely making a sound in the room. I could see Andy shifting nervously from foot to foot behind Kyle, his pale lips pressed tightly together. The strange man was nowhere to be seen.
"Yes. I know this transition can be very confusing. But before you ask: no, we are not vampires." He chuckled at some forgotten memory.
"Then what are you?" I could feel my bottom lip trembling again, and Kyle put his hand over mine, squeezing gently.
"We." He corrected. "I can't tell you just yet. Rules are rules. Not until you finish the transformation." He smiled slightly, a pained look taking over his features.
Dismissing the question, I asked a new one. "Why do I look like this?" Kyle turned to Andy, who stepped forward.
"Because, all of us look how we subconsciously wish we'd look. Well, all of us who weren't born this way." Andy told me, before he retreated from the room suddenly and silently.
I shot Kyle a questioning glance, but Andy returned before he could answer.
"Here." Andy said, handing me a bundle of clothing." You have to put this on."
"Why?" I was so confused, my mouth must have been hanging open in shock.
"We have to leave. We're taking you to our cabin for a few days. You'll be back at school on Monday though." Kyle said reassuringly, and I took the clothes from Andy.
"But what about my mother?"
"Your mother will be notified." Andy nodded, as they left me alone, the door closing with a barely audible click.
I had no idea what was happening to me, but the strange brothers were my only hope of finding out, so I got dressed in the nondescript clothing running a hand through my hair. It was perfect though, no tangles, nothing.
When I emerged from the bathroom a minute later, only Kyle was waiting for me, leaning against the wall next to the door. I raised an eyebrow, and he chuckled.
"We're taking my bike." He informed me, pulling open the door and gesturing for me to go through.
