Something's Up

I hummed to myself as I ran circles around the perimeter tiny cabin, getting closer to it, then farther away. Aaron was right about all the energy. I'd been running non-stop for over an hour and I was still wide awake, and not even winded.

There was a slight rustling to my left, and I froze completely so I could listen. Andy stepped out from between the trees, and I jumped in fright before shooting him a nasty glare and starting my run again. It was hard for me to stand still, like I was hopped up on the world's strongest caffeinated drink.

"Bliss." He whined, trailing behind me, as I turned off the path I'd created. One of the perks of being immortal; super speed. The only problem was, Andy had it too.

"No." I didn't want to talk to anybody until I was fully back to myself. That was I wouldn't be able to hurt anybody else, with my powers or otherwise.

"Bliss, you need to stop." His voice was more forceful, but also more pleading.

I rolled my eyes and slowed down, crossing my arms as I leaned against a large oak tree. "What is it?" He just blinked at me, as if surprised I'd even stopped at all. "Well?" I emphasized.

"You can stop the act anytime now." He snapped. "I know what it's like, too. Or did you forget?"

"Why are we even fighting about this?" I sighed, not in the mood to argue with anybody; especially the only other immortal I knew who wasn't Borne.

He let out a seemingly unstable sigh, and sank down so he was sitting on a fallen log covered in moss. "I don't know. It's you." I scoffed, and went to say something, but he cut me off with a wave of his hand. "Not like that. It's your powers, they're getting stronger. When you're irritated, if you're not blocking then everybody around you will become irritated also. Which is why we need to get you in control of your powers."

"This sounds like some freaky sci-fi movie." I grunted, feeling the urge to run again. My legs were itching to get moving, and Andy could see that.

"Go." He nodded toward the path, and I immediately took off running without a second thought.

If what Andy was saying was right, my powers must have been pretty strong right? It couldn't be good for anybody around me if they were going haywire all the time. Especially when I rarely noticed. Kyle would probably know what to do, what with him being a memory reader of sorts.

Nothing unusual happened my whole run, and by the time I headed back inside, I was feeling kind of tired.

"Hey Emma." I smiled. She was standing in the kitchen chopping onions for the boiling pot on the stove.

"Hi sweetheart." She set the knife down and wiped her hands on her apron, coming over to me. Putting her hands on my shoulders she looked me straight in the eye. "How are you feeling? Any pain, nausea?"

I shook my head. "I'm fine, promise."

"Good. Now, Kyle's been sulking ever since the whole incident. But don't blame yourself honey, we warned you guys you might act out irrationally for a few hours." Emma pushed me in the direction of the living room. Only Aaron was there, reading an encyclopedia. Odd.

"Hey Aaron?" I asked a bit timidly. He still scared me more than any normal person would, even if he did seem nice.

"Yes?" He set his book face-down in his lap, and turned his torso toward me.

"I was just wondering if you knew where Kyle was? I need to apologize for earlier. I wasn't thinking clearly." I explained, shuffling my feet nervously.

"As is right. I knew you were a nice girl the second I saw you. That other girl, she was the problem." He smiled, pointing to the hall. "They're in their room."

I nodded, and followed the small hallway to the door. Even though the door wasn't closed all the way, I felt the need to knock. Putting my hand up, the door swung open before I had the chance to knock.

"Bliss." Andy smiled slightly, gesturing me inside before he disappeared down the hallway.

"Kyle?" I frowned, squinting my eyes to see better in the dimly lit room. There was a low mumbling from Kyle's bed, and I rolled my eyes, moving over to sit on the edge. "Kyle."

"What?" He grumbled from under the covers.

"I'm sorry for what happened earlier. I really wasn't myself, you know that!" I pleaded, putting my hands together in my lap.

"That may be true, but you still locked me up. Do you know how horrible that was? And you were just going to leave me like that!" He pushed the blankets off and sat up, his dark hair unruly.

"Yes, I know." I tried to calm him down a little, but he wasn't budging.

"You don't. You'll never really know." Then a sly grin swept across his face, and was gone just as fast as it had come. "But I can show you. You're not the only one with powers." I was getting sort of scared by then, and stood backing toward the door. "Come on, Bliss. You need to know. Know what you're doing to people."

Then I couldn't move. I knew in my head that I could if I wanted, but Kyle's powers were strong, and he had hit me with the full force of the memory. That was when I realized; it was terrible. I couldn't move even if I'd wanted to, and I had no idea how I was holding myself up.

Kyle stood in front of me a good ten minutes later, his arms crossed over his well-muscled chest. "Have you learned your lesson yet?" I could only stare. I'd tried to tell him to stop, even in his head, but the memory had me trapped.

"Kyle!" Aaron bellowed, storming into the room. He'd probably been walking by when he'd seen this little revenge scene Kyle had cooked up. I was going to need years of intensive therapy.

"She deserved it!" He shot back, letting me go. I dropped to the floor immediately, both my legs were asleep.

"Ungh." I grunted upon impact with the hard wooden planks. Oak, those were. I could feel it.

"Why would you do that? You know perfectly well that she didn't have control." Aaron defended me, otherwise ignoring me as I tried to stand up.

"Well, what do you want me to do now? It's already done." The expression on Kyle's face told me he regretted doing it. But if you're just going to feel regret, why do it in the first place? You could save yourself the whole trouble. Maybe he suffered from raged blackouts.

"Take the memory away." Aaron ordered, sweeping past me out the door. My mouth was hanging open, and one look at Kyle revealed his expression mirrored my own.

"You can't!" I shot up, wobbling slightly. I wasn't going to let him steal pieces of my past!

"I have to." He stated simply, standing before me. I rolled my eyes, but I knew I couldn't stop him. Nobody had taught me how to shield, and I was sure that wouldn't help either way with Kyle. His specialty was memories.

I frowned as I tried to remember what I had been angry about. Kyle was sitting next to me, looking out the window.

"Kyle?" I asked, and he turned toward me with a smile. "What was I just talking about?"

"Silly girl. You were telling me about your run." He explained, taking my hand. I intertwined our fingers as I began telling him about the odd conversation I'd had with Andy in the woods.

But the fact that I couldn't remember what I had been talking about was really bothering me. Immortals were supposed to remember everything. Something was up.
