The Transformation

"Oh, I can't believe this." Emma fussed about the living room of the small two bedroom cabin where we had taken refuge.

"Do you know who that was?" I frowned. I would have asked Kyle who probably got a look into the guy's mind, but all the men had run off the second we'd all met up in the middle of nowhere.

"No, honey." She started rummaging through the fridge in the small attached kitchen, and pulled some more of the blue liquid out of the fridge.

"You need to drink more of the elixir. Your transformation isn't complete yet." I took the small vial, tossing it back quickly. The elixir was absolutely tasteless, and I was pretty much used to having to drink several vials everyday.

"How much longer will I have to take this?" I asked, handing the vial back to her. She thought about it for a moment, seemingly calculating in her head before a huge smile split across her face.

"Today should be your last day!" She announced excitedly. "Your transformation will finish tonight. All your strength and speed should come in. I'm sure you've had some already, but the full extent- you'll be one of us!" I'd never seen Emma more excited about anything in the weeks I'd been living with her, and it was rather disconcerting.

"What will happen exactly?" I inquired, fiddling with my hands nervously. Neither Kyle nor Andy had said anything about my transformation lately, and I was getting impatient.

"Well..." She paused, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "I think you will experience some pain, but nothing severe."

"Oh." I didn't have a high pain tolerance, and that fact worried me slightly.

"Anything else?" I wondered aloud, bracing myself.

"Well, you'll be hyperactive for about an hour. You won't be able to sit still, and you may find yourself doing things you may not normally do." She warned, patting the top of my head. "You'll be fine."

"Yeah, I hope so." I whispered, not at all reassured.

After our conversation, Emma said she had to go tend to some things around the property, leaving me alone in the small cabin. I began exploring to waste time, starting in the room Kyle, Andy, and I would be sharing. I stepped into the small room, the smell of pine needles immediately overpowering my senses. With a frown, I realized the window was open.

"Weird." I mumbled, my eyebrows scrunching together. I didn't think anybody had been in the room since we'd arrived, but tried to close it anyway.

I grunted slightly, pulling on the window, but it wouldn't budge.

"Need some help with that?" Came an even, friendly voice out of nowhere.

A loud shriek escaped my lips, and I whipped around baring my teeth. The moment I realized it was Kyle I straightened up, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry."

"No, I should be sorry for scaring you." He chuckled.

"So where were you?" I asked nonchalantly as Kyle pulled the window shut easily.

"Just looking to see if we could track the guy." He shrugged like it was nothing, but I knew he was hiding something from me.

"So..." I traced a circle in a bit of dust on the window sill. "Where's Andy and Aaron?" I didn't look at him, he would have immediately known I was fishing for information.

"Fishing." He guessed, dropping onto the bed.

"Damn." I swore, looking up. "Look, you gonna tell me or not. Emma says my transformation completes tonight."

Kyle shot up, looking shocked. "Seriously?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"Oh, this is huuuge!" He grinned, the day's past events clearly forgotten. "We have to prepare!"

"Prepare?" I groaned, straggling behind him as he pulled me from the room.
