Charles attended The University of Texas. It was September 15, 1961. He, and several friends killed a deer.
When Whitman was fined $US100, he dismissed someone who ratted on him to the police.
II
Whitman's hobbies were: scuba diving; hunting; gambling; and karate. Then, as he and his friend Francis Schuck, Jr., headed to the University of Texas Main Building bookstore, Whitman was quoted as saying:
"A person could stand off an army from atop of it,, before they got him", unquote. This sent alarm bells to Francis. But he didn't tell anyone in the University faculty; he remained silent.

By February 17, 1962, Charles, then aged 21, fell in love with Kathleen Frances Leissner. After they married, (August 17, 1962), (his brother Patrick Whitman was Charles's Best Man; Father Leduc did the Catholic ceremony), in Needleville, Texas, it was hoped that Charles would grow up. And begin to leave his issues alone. Kathleen's family said, quote, "Charles is a handsome young man", unquote. But, by February,1963, (nine months before JFK was assassinated in Dallas, Texas), 22 year old Charles Whitman entered the North Carolina barracks situated at Camp Lejeune. After being promoted to Lance Corporal, Whitman was in an accident with several US Marines in Jeep; Whitman was in Hospital for 4 days.

But he continued gambling. And, as he threatened a Marine over a $US 30 debt, (and demanding $US 15 extra for insurance), Whitman was demoted to Private. And was in confinement for 30 days; and he suffered 90 days' hard labor. He was also charged with ursury, (making unethical, or immoral monetary loans to people); and having illegal guns on a US Military base.

By December 1964, Whitman who knew of the assassination of JFK the year before, was "honorably discharged", and left the US Marines.
