A/N – this chapter is dedicated to Rhema Jacob, my new friend in a new city.
Chapter Four- Not quite the perfect weekend
I wanted to run out as fast as I had entered and I did.
My eyes! Oh my poor eyes! I wanted to erase what I saw. Nope, nothing was working. That scene popped into my head every five minutes.
“Ugh!” I was in my bed trying to think of anything, literally.
Usually I don’t need to try hard to drift away but now I was trying desperately.
I think anyone would after they witnessed their best friend’s tongue in the school’s head cheerleader’s throat and she lying on top of him in their living room.
I needed to speak with someone. I took out my phone and dialed Meg’s number but I stopped myself before I hit the call button on the screen. I couldn’t really interrupt her date tonight. I couldn’t call Shane as he was with Megan and I couldn’t really call Trent, now could I? And there’s that picture again! I needed more friends.
So, like all Saturday nights, I went to Josh’s diner with my guitar.
I decided of singing “Unbreakable” by westlife. It was slow but the lyrics reminded me of the relationship with my father, Tyra couldn’t break it and I was hoping Kylie wouldn’t break the bond Trent and I shared. Sure, I had a huge crush on him but all put aside, our friendship was more important.
After my song, I headed towards the booth and ordered a Rio. While waiting for my drink, I looked ahead at the little raised platform where a girl, should be around my age, was singing “Dark side” by Kelly Clarkson and her voice was enchanting, beautiful. She had short jet black hair and a side fringe a little taller than me.
I was really enjoying her performance and mouthed the lyrics.
*Everybody's got a dark side
Do you love me?
Can you love mine?
Nobody's a picture perfect
But we're worth it
You know that we're worth it
Will you love me?
Even with my dark side?*
When she was done and received a hearty applause, I went up to her.
“Hey”
“Hi” she replied.
“You have got an amazing voice”
“Thanks, I hear you sing every Saturday”
“Yup, I do but this was the first time I am hearing you”
“Well, there is a first time for everything and this was my first”
“I forgot, to introduce myself. I am Gweneth but I prefer Gwen.”
“I am Ryna"
“Want to have a seat?” I offered.
“I would love to but my friend is waiting for me” she gestured to a guy at another booth.
“Oh, okay” I didn’t bother hiding the disappointment in my voice and I think she noticed it.
“We can meet up tomorrow though, if you are free”
My face lit up, like a kid’s when he got a new toy.
“Yeah, sure. “
“Hasher’s Park, 11?”
