Chapter Seventeen – Decisions.
Preparations for the senior prom were really kicking off early this year. I personally think that it is completely overrated and to top that our finals weren’t that far away either. Prom was being held on the May 27th and our finals were starting from June 6th.
Well, it was a plus that there was going to be a joint prom with my old school since both schools completed 50 years, even though I might not end up going to it at all. That was the last thing I wanted on my mind, to be honest. It didn’t seem right after all that had happened. I made sure that my mind was occupied at all times but it was hard to do the same at night while lying in bed.
I walked into the school library which had only a few occupants and I was thankful for that. The smell of books enveloped me. From my point of view, books give us something to believe in even if it includes vampires or any of the supernatural for that matter. It takes us away from the harsh reality and transports us to a whole new dimension which brings us a happiness of some sort, it takes us on an adventure even if it’s temporary, we get to experience the joy of it and we love to do it again and again and again. It’s an addiction.
I go way back, past the numerous isles only to find my quiet corner occupied by Sean. I never really took him to be a reader especially since he was best friends with Paul who’s first and last book was Goldilocks! So, this was a complete shocker!
I sat down in the corner across him and began to read my own Cecelia Ahern novel. I was so absorbed that I hadn’t noticed the time. The bell rang indicating the end of lunch. As I headed out I caught Sean’s eye and gave a smile which he acknowledged with a nod and a slight smile. I couldn’t help but notice the Jeffery Archer novel he was holding. Who would have thought that Goldilocks and Jeffery Archer could go hand in hand? God really does work in mysterious ways, I suppose.
Chase, Paige and Michelle were coming over to my place for some studying. It was good studying in a group and even better to have company. I drove with them since Janine couldn’t make it to school today.
As we got out, I fumbled through my backpack for the house keys and opened the door. I leave it slightly open for the others when I hear Janine talking to someone in the living room, only to find that that someone was Trent with Megan sitting silently across, texting.
“Hi.” I said greeting all three of them.
“Hey! We thought we’d stop by and thought we could watch a movie, today being Friday and all. We’ve got the new Thor that came out a few months ago!” said Megan.
“We didn’t know that you were having company. I guess we’ll come back later some time.” Said Trent, as the others entered.
“Hold on.” I say to Trent.
“Do you guys really want to study on a Friday night?” I asked the rest of them.
“Well, what’s the alternative?” Paige asked.
“Umm, we could watch Thor: The Dark World?” I asked hopefully.
“Count me in! Chris Hemsworth!” Michelle said with dreamy eyes.
The others agreed too, even Janine and since I didn’t want my room to be a mess, we headed to the home-theatre. We rarely used it though. I guess I’ve started to appreciate whatever I have even more now that dad wasn’t around.
Greta made some popcorn for all of us, some of which was lying on the floor after my friends threw them at each other. Michelle and Paige were going on about how thrilling the movie was and I completely agreed with them.
