"By the way, does any of you have any information about Dr. Banner?" Thor asks at large during breakfast. He's in full costume, cape and all, since he came from Asgard a few hours ago. He'd told them Heimdal had sent his regards, but they all doubted it.
"Brucie?" Tony asks, lifting his head from his tablet. He regards Thor with a slight frown. "Why do you need to know?"
Thor gives a shrug as he takes another spoonful of cereal. "He's the only Avenger not present." Tony takes a look around the kitchen and takes stock of the four Avengers apart from him, and of Bucky and Ms. Potts. Steve hadn't noticed either.
"Well, he was actually thinking of making a visit."
Thor perks up at this and the others seem interested, too. Even Bucky, who's thoughtfully stared at his nutritional shake for the last ten minutes, seems curious now.
"That's the Hulk, right?" he asks in a low tone, something Steve's got used to it in the last few days. He nods at Bucky with a light smile.
Bucky's silence makes him feel on edge sometimes, fearing he's shutting off the world. Then Bucky will speak or answer a question he's been asked, and the band around Steve's chest will disappear.
"He was actually coming to help me with something." Steve notices Tony's change in tone and his eyes now cast down. Ms. Potts is also observing him with interest. "By the way, I meant to talk with you in private, Marvin the Paranoid Android."
Steve turns to Bucky and catches his eyes pop with shock. He turns back to Tony to ask what the hell's going on, but it seems he's misunderstood Bucky's reaction. "I know who's that."
Tony grins at Bucky and then turns to look at Steve with quite a different expression. "Less than a week out of brainwashing and already doing better than you, Steve."
"Tony!" Ms. Potts gasps as she directs a glare at Tony. Steve himself stares at Tony with shock.
"What?" Tony asks innocently, looking up at Ms. Potts as she stares him down with arms akimbo. "You don't understand us. Terminator gets me."
But Tony himself doesn't seem convinced when he turns to Bucky.
"I get you," Bucky says with a slight smirk after an awkward moment. Steve believes things can't get better until Bucky raises his hand over the table. Tony looks up, not understanding at first. Then he grins and high-fives Bucky, their palms resonating through the kitchen.
"Jesus, I was already sweating," Tony comments as he settles back on his chair, shaking his now red hand. "As I was saying, I was going to tell you in private, unless you don't mind having all the Brady Bunch in your business."
"My business will be everybody's business, soon," Bucky says off-handedly, looking at Steve's plate. He appears to be more interested in Steve's pancakes than the fact that he'll have to go through a trial once he's ready to go back into the world.
"Touché," Clint says from his seat at the table. "But it doesn't have to start now."
Bucky nods at Clint and adds, "Stark's either going to tell me about that new arm he's making..."
Tony jumps in his seat and directs a surprised look at Bucky. "Who told you about that?"
"Really?" Clint and Nat say at the same time, brows lifted almost to their foreheads. Steve finds their synchrony amusing and a bit preternatural.
"Or you've found a way to fix my brain," Bucky continues as if no one has spoken, enumerating with his fingers. A little frown appears on Steve's brow at how Bucky speaks about himself, but he bites his tongue.
