The rain hadn't stopped since evening.
Water streaked down the hospital windows in endless silver lines while thunder rolled faintly across the city. Usually, weather like this made me want to go home early.
Tonight, I didn't.
I sat inside my cabin staring blankly at my phone screen.
No new messages from Ishaani.
No calls.
Nothing.
A week ago, she would've texted at least three times by now.
Did you eat?
Drive safe.
Don't forget your umbrella.
Tiny things.
Annoying things.
Things I never appreciated until they stopped.
I unlocked my phone again out of habit.
Still nothing.
Something bitter twisted inside my chest.
"She still ignoring you?"
I looked up to find Tanisha leaning against the cabin door with two coffee cups in her hands.
"I'm not being ignored," I muttered.
Tanisha raised a brow knowingly before walking inside.
"That defensive response says otherwise."
I rolled my eyes, but she only smiled faintly before placing one coffee in front of me.
"You've been in a mood all day."
"Busy day."
"No," she corrected calmly. "Bad mood."
I exhaled slowly before leaning back in my chair.
For some reason, talking to Tanisha had become... easy.
Dangerously easy.
There was no emotional heaviness with her.
No expectations.
No complicated history.
Just understanding.
And lately, that understanding felt addictive.
"She barely talks to me anymore," I admitted quietly.
Tanisha stayed silent.
"I try talking, and she either shuts down or gets irritated."
"She's hurt."
"I know that."
"Then why are you surprised?"
I frowned slightly.
"I'm not surprised. I'm frustrated."
"Because?"
I laughed humorlessly.
"Because suddenly I'm the one trying."
The second the words left my mouth, silence filled the room.
Tanisha studied me carefully.
"That sounds selfish."
"Maybe it is."
She didn't disagree.
Instead, she sat across from me quietly.
"You know what I think?" she asked softly.
"What?"
