The sound of the birds chirping outside was what sounded through my ears. My body lay still, sleep still washing away from it as a groan escaped my chapped lips. I swallowed hard, finding the strength to get up before I winced as a newfound pain made its presence inside of my mouth. I scrunched my closed eyelids, reaching one arm up to my mouth. I opened wide, eyes still shut, and my eyes soon shot open as my fingers brushed against my fangs.
I shot out of bed, sitting straight up as I brought both of my fingers up to find all four fangs still elongated. My breathing became heavy as I reached behind, feeling my soft feathers of the wings that were out wide in the open. I flicked my eyes over to the mirror, and once again was met with the golden ones from last night.
"Andy?" Madison asked softly, causing me to flick my head over to her. The concern and worry in my eyes must not of been covered for she immediately set the tray down she was holding and rushed over to my side. "Andy! What's wrong, babe? Babe, sh, calm down."
I looked up into her beautiful blue eyes, my breathing slowly going back to its normal pace before speaking. "I can't."
"You can't what?"
"I can't... Shift... Back." I said in between breaths, trying to calm myself down. I swallowed hard again, trying to retract my wings but failed as pain shot up my back. "I can't shift... I can't-"
"Andy, calm down. Don't push yourself Andy! It's fine, calm down." She placed a hand on my shoulder, rubbing her soft thumb along my skin. She leaned over the bed, placing her pink lips against mine. My heart skipped a beat and slowly calmed down as she positioned herself on top of me, the kiss never breaking. I deepened the kiss, letting my hands travel up and down her back as her hands got tangled in my hair. I moaned softly into the kiss, my lips begging for more as I felt her pull away. "Better?"
I opened my eyes, nodding.
"Good, now please calm down." Madison said with a smile, stroking my pale cheek. I smiled warmly a bit, looking down. "I'm just worried."
"Why?" She asked quietly.
"This has never happened," I mumbled quietly, playing with my thumbs.
"Never?" She questioned.
I shook my head. "No, er well... Not since I earned some grace back..."
"Wait, what do you mean?" Madison asked, confusion laced inside her voice.
"Before I earned my grace back and before I met you, I was having a very difficult time controlling myself." I said quietly, looking away. "It as just like this. I couldn't hide away my fangs, I couldn't retract my wings. It was my inner demon coming out, and at times it almost one." I looked back at Madison, tears at the edge of falling from my eyes. "I'm scared that's what's happening. I'm scared that my pure fallen angel blood is masking my grace, letting my demon out again."
Madison's mouth formed a small frown as her blue eyes looked down. She let a small sigh escape her lips before speaking once more. "Andy, no matter what, I'll still love you. I'll still be her for you through every step of the way. If that's really what's happening? I'm not leaving okay. We'll figure it out, I promise." My lips former a small smile as I laced our fingers together."I don't think your demon is coming out."
I arched an eyebrow. "What do you think then?"
"I think you're freaked out about Lucifer coming.." She said softly. The sound of his name made me shiver. He was planning something, and I knew it was to bring me back down. But I wouldn't go back, no matter what.
"He wants me back," I muttered.
Madison sighed, laying down on me as she rubbed my chest. "I don't want you to go, Andy. Please."
