The first few questions were exactly what Haruto expected.
Training schedules.
Study habits.
Simulator recommendations.
How to manage nerves before practical exams.
How much sleep pilots actually got.
(Answer: "More than you think. Less than you should.")
The atmosphere became surprisingly comfortable.
Students asked.
Haruto answered.
Occasionally he elaborated.
Occasionally he deflected.
A few times he outright told them there wasn't a perfect answer.
Ironically, those tended to be the answers students wrote down most diligently.
"How important are rankings?"
A first-year near the center asked.
Haruto thought for a moment.
"Important."
The room became attentive.
Then he continued.
"Until they aren't."
Several students blinked.
"What does that mean?"
"It means rankings are useful."
He took another sip of coffee.
"They show progress."
"They motivate people."
"They help identify strengths and weaknesses."
A pause.
"But if your entire self-worth is tied to a number beside your name, you're going to have a rough time."
That got a few nods.
Even some of the second-years in attendance looked thoughtful.
Another hand shot up.
"What's the biggest mistake you made during first year?"
Haruto immediately answered.
"Assuming I had to solve everything myself."
The answer came so quickly that it caught some students off guard.
A few older students exchanged glances.
They knew exactly what he meant.
The first-years didn't.
Not fully.
"You'll hear this a lot."
Haruto leaned back slightly.
"Being capable doesn't mean you have to carry everything."
Silence.
Not uncomfortable.
Just attentive.
"Some problems need help."
A pause.
"Some victories need teams."
Another pause.
"And some burdens are stupid enough that you should absolutely share them."
A few students laughed.
The message still landed.
Another question.
