I looked down, seeing that a BLU had indeed attempted to get past the mark, and he was lying on the ground, clutching his chest as he shook with pain. It made me almost uncomfortable, looking down at them, but I crawled out of Medic's hold to get a closer look. I felt a tug at the coat as Medic grabbed the other end to keep me from falling off the roof. As I tried to get a better look at who it was a gunshot rang out loud. I quickly ducked. From behind me, I heard the Medic hiss in pain as he, out of reflex, let go of the coat. I had been leaning forward on the slanting roof, and the coat slipped away from Medic's grasp, I attempted to jump back but I fell off, screaming in panic as I swung around, clinging as tight as I could to the edge of the roof.
"Medic!" I shouted. The edge was sharp against my hand, so I couldn't hold on long. We were at least five stories up, so I knew that letting go would most likely result in a very hard landing. I would be lucky if I didn't escape with a broken leg. The Medic tore his glove off as he looked at his hand. His whole arm was shaking. I saw that the bullet had gone completely through the back of his knuckles. He grunted in silent pain as he tried to contain the bleeding, crawling to me as fast as he could.
"Medic! Don't try anything!" I shouted, as gunfire rang out below, still trying to hold on. "You'll fall trying to pull me up!"
"I don't care!" he shouted back. "Give me your hand!" I went to yell back in protest but as I turned to check enemy fire I saw a missile was homing in on us and fast. Medic grabbed my hand swiftly and tried to pull me up in time, but the missile exploded right next to him, blowing a huge hole in the roof and causing us both to plummet downwards.
I was spinning, screaming as the world passed in a blur and my arms flailed to gain control. By the time I thought I knew where the ground was, I landed...hard on my side, my right shoulder the first thing that hit. My breath caught in my throat as an unbelievable pain shot through my body. Gravel and rocks seemed to lodge into my skin like blunt knives as I shook, coughing. I looked up again, hoping to see the Medic there. He was lying just a few feet away. He had landed stomach first, for he was now on his side, clutching his stomach and chest.
I did my best to crawl over to him, trying to stay low and hidden in the dust from our landing. I shook him gently, my eyes watering from the pain in my shoulder.
"Medic...we have to move..." I said, my voice terribly strained. He looked at me, panting, but I noticed that his breath was hitching. His pain must've been at least ten times worse than mine. I tugged on him this time, hoping that he would move before the enemy gained on us. The last thing I needed right now, was to lose Medic.
"Come on..." I shook him. He seemed dazed, his eyes wide as he tensed under me. I started to tremble in oncoming panic as I pleaded. "Please...you have to get up..." When he wouldn't respond I looked around, hoping to see somebody that would help me. I spotted Spy in the midst, looking through his disguises.
"Spy!" I shouted, keeping a hand on Medic just to be sure that he was still there. "Spy! Help me!" Though he never heard me, vanishing just a second later out of my view. I made a sound almost like a frustrated whimper as I turned back to the Medic. He was bleeding badly. It was here that I started thinking as fast as my mind would let me. I couldn't leave him, and I was afraid to lift him up in fear that I would hurt him even worse. The most I could think to do was lie low and hope that eventually the attack would soon blow over.
Quickly thinking, I took the coat off, folding it slightly before putting it to his chest to stop the bleeding. He groaned and tensed under me, but I had to ignore it. No matter how much it hurt I layed down on my bad shoulder, facing him on the ground. He was lucky he had landed in a shallow ditch, just high enough where the enemy couldn't see us. I held the coat against his chest as I ground my teeth in unbearable pain, looking up at him. He was looking at me, slowly easing his hands away from his chest as I held the coat against him. I was still shaking, and I hoped it wasn't bothering him.
"Please...just stay with me until we get to the clinic..." I pleaded quietly, seeing the dark red blood starting to soak into the coat, I was tearing up in frustration as the war raged around us. He shuddered, trying to keep his eyes on me as my heart pounded low in my stomach. He slowly moved his arm until he had his hand up by my face, cupping my cheek gently. I took a shaking breath.
"Frau..." he wheezed just loud enough for me to hear. I looked up at him once again.
"Y...yes..?" I asked, worried for his life...and my own...
"E...Es schmerzt...Es tut so weh..." He said those words so quietly that I barely heard him, but he said it through such pain that...I just wanted to cry. I didn't even have to speak German to know what he said, and it tore a chunk out of my heart to hear it.
"It hurts...it hurts so much..."
