“Six feet under the stars is a place that doesn’t exist. It’s a place in your mind where everything and anything is possible. It’s a place with no rules or limitations. It’s a place where only two people can be at a time where no one can judge them and no one could try to break them apart.”

                                                                                                                                                  —-Alex Gaskarth

Dim street lights flickered as a group of teenagers rushed across the pavement with deliberate movements. Their shadows were cast over my lawn as they rushed across the dewy grass of my neighbor's lawn. Hushed giggles and laughter could be heard only in a soft murmur compared to the deafening wind. The moon was full and bathed their figures a creamy white. It was Halloween night, and the moment was ripe for mischief. The cold air and lack of improvement on piano pieces kept me in. Locked inside with the bolt my father had just installed.

I traced "SOS" in the fog of my window while staring oh-so longingly at the group. A light fog had begun to form on the ground and the gravel was still wet from the days drizzle. All in all, it looked like the perfect creepy setting.

With a small groan, I let my mind wander. Wander in such a dangerous way I gave into hormonal want and day dreamed. About the boy with the sea foam eyes. Wondered if those pink lips felt as softed as they looked if they were pressed against mine. Idly running my fingers through wisps of my dark green hair I paid no attention to the sound of footsteps.

"Psst!" Tap. Tap. TAP. BANG!I jolted up right, the dreamy expression disappeared with the wind as I stared back at the face in my window. Green eyes stared back at me. I felt a light smile dance across my lips as I stared at him. His dirty blond curls fell into his eyes and curled just above his ears. He wore a slightly sheepish expression, his hand buried in his curls and the corners of his mouth slightly upturned.

I opened the window slightly, enough to hear whatever he had to say at this time of night. It was almost midnight. The sound of my grandfather clock in the hall way chimed, reassuring me it was indeed now midnight.

"Can Rose come out and play?" he whispered loud enough for me to hear. I felt a blush make its way from the tips of my toes to my scalp. I grabbed a jacket and pulled on a pair of slip on Vans. They were a checkered neon blue and green. They were the ones he picked out. I opened the window enough for me to slip through, and fell face first into a solid block of muscle. I had my hands fanned out on his chest, gripping his shirt from balance.

"Touchy feely today, aren't we?" Oliver grinned wolfishly down at me as I felt myself shrink. Think like Kylie, I commanded myself.

"Act your age not your shoe size!"I whispered, scuttling away from him with shame radiating off me in waves. I heard his warm chuckle behind me as I took bold steps forward, willing myself not to look back. Soon he was striding next to me, his foot steps in sync with mine. I grinned, shoving my hands in the pockets of my jacket. I was wearing my pjs, but next to him, I didn't feel self consious wearing Tigger bottoms and a Walker High School jacket.

"Where's Kylie?"I asked after a moment of silence as we mercifully crunched through the reminents of Autumn leaves. He glanced at me, his eyes almost burning into mine with intensity.

"I don't know, and right now it doesn't matter. I've got you, don't I?" His reply made my heart flutter about like a crazed, caged animal. When we arrived to the group, I realized they hadn't just brought rolls of toilet paper, but loads of forks and eggs. It was a well known teacher's house. Mostly famous for his grading skills.

"Hey Rose!"Several people greeted me with hugs and silent eyebrow wiggles. It seemed like everyone knew of my infatuation with Oliver. Except, of course, him. The rest of the night was a blur, filled with the constant reminder of police cars and lights in windows. Before I knew it, Oliver was escorting me back to my room. Hopping into my room, before I close the window, I leaned out.

"Thanks for cheering me up," I whispered, before placing a kiss on his lips. I closed the window before he could react, my pulse racing. It took me four years, but I guess 17 was the right year for me! And yes, his lips were as soft as they looked.

"Kylie sort of changed while you were gone Oliver." I tried to sum up her downward spiral in one sentance. He gave me a calm look, like he was waiting for me to explain. I sighed.

"She couldn't take it. Being a mom, you know? She left Alex with me when she was a baby, and Kylie took off. I found out she was stripping a couple months later. That's when I was awarded custody. Oliver, she's just not ready." Some how my voice stayed calm and even, though inside I felt like a sob was working its way out. Oliver was in shock, he began numbly rubbing his shoulders and rolling his neck. He spoke nothing.

"I'm sorry you didn't know." I whispered, resting my head on Alex's for a moment. I gazed back at him and I realized I had just about made him just as broken as I with those words. You could tell he had tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat. I felt like a monster, my heart hurt. Love never stops I suppose. And I wanted to make this easier for him.

"It gets worse though. . " His head snapped up and the redness in his green eyes were more prominate. Another stab at my heart.

"She started abusing Lithium and began. . . prostitutingto feed her habit. I got her into rehab six months ago. She must've gotten out just in time for you to get back." I ran my fingers through Alex's curls, feeling her sigh. Oliver got up and left. When the door shut the voice in my head questioned if he'd ever be back. I felt tears well up in my own eyes as I murmured words of comfort to Alex's curls.
