It was Josh's 23rd birthday, something he couldn't quite believe, he felt quite old! He laughed to himself contrasting his age with the sometimes immaturity of the content the others and himself produced but he knew that he was a mature grown adult, particularly in comparison to the other members of the sidemen! He had just woken up and proceeded to walk downstairs...
*Josh's POV*
I'm absolutely exhausted, despite it being my birthday the video grind never stops and I'm getting little respite, I got little sleep last night and I'm hoping that I can at least relax today. As I walk downstairs I notice it's particularly quiet, perhaps too quiet, too quiet for this house anyway! I decide to walk into the living room and I flick the light on.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSH!" yells everyone, I'm dumbstruck they're all here relatively early in the morning to surprise me. They're all here, the 6 other sidemen as well as both Cals, Shifty, JME and even Deji among others! I'm just stood there overcome with emotion, I'm not the most open person in real life, certainly not an overly emotional man but the effort put in to make me happy on my birthday from the others suddenly got to me.
"Thank you everyone so much!" I say with a hearty gratitude, a chorus of applause from everyone ringing throughout the earlier dead silent house. After this everyone started talking and just chilling, exactly the sort of birthday I wanted, nothing too over the top and it had been a good laugh, a meal at a place of my choice and it was obvious which restaurant chain that was! The other sidemen and I got back to the house, all 7 of us staying together for the night and there was as you would expect, crazy shit going on, JJ and Harry were chasing each other round the house with the extravagant nerf guns Vikk and I had used in a video before, Emon were sat together playing FIFA exchanging banter only those two could produce, Vikk was minecrafting with the Pack in his room, then Tobi came from spectating Emon's game to talk to me.
"I hope you've enjoyed today Josh, the others and I wanted to make it a special day for you but relaxing as I know you're not into over the top parties!" he said with a broad smile.
"I really appreciate it mate" I replied, "I've had a great day and I wouldn't have wanted to spend it any other way, I'm getting old!" he laughed and once again smiled that beaming smile that only Tobi could achieve, he then hugged me, pretty tightly which caught me off guard.
"woah calm down there Tobi!" I laughed.
"I'm sorry!" he giggled "It's just weird that we've been friends so long and now you're 23!"
"It's been 10 memorable years Tobi, and it's amazing where we are now, I'm proud to call you a mate of mine". Did he just blush? I was considerably surprised by both his reaction and how sentimental I had just been. I then thought I might as well hug him again, we embraced again, a friendly hug, not an unusual sight as we were all close friends, but having known Tobi for such a long time, it meant a lot to me we were still good friends and that were pursuing our careers together with the others.
"You'll always mean a lot to me Josh mate, here's to 10 more years" he said happily, we then clinked our beer bottles together and continued to reminisce while the others carried on with what they were doing in their typically loud fashion.
*The next morning* *Narrator*
JJ, Ethan, Tobi and Harry were leaving the house saying their goodbyes to get on with their recordings. Tobi was the last to say goodbye and looked back at Josh with a saddened smile, Josh smile back but confused why Tobi would seem upset. Vikk being the ever observant one then said something that would get Josh thinking for a while:
"I think Tobi is going to really miss you Josh"
"But why? I see him very often" Josh replied sighing, obviously puzzled by this.
"It just emphasises how much you mean to him" said Vikk in an understanding tone
"I guess so, he's always been a brilliant friend" said Josh happily
"Then again" continued Vikk "maybe Tobi wants to be a bit more than friends."
