I sat on the couch watching Keelan dance around, it was raining so we were stuck inside. The four boys were at the table playing cards. My mum and dad were in the office.
"Could you turn that shit off?" Ashton spat, I ignored him and cheekily put it up a notch.
"I said turn it off!" Ashton said getting up from his chair.
"No, my house." I replied back as he made his way over to Keelan.
"Get away from him." I said through gritted teeth, Ashton put his foot up and slammed it back down over the toy car. The plastic car was squashed beneath his boot.
"Whoops." Ashton said sarcastically, walking back to his seat at the table. Keelan began to whimper, his lip quivered and I picked him up. I picked up the remains of the car angrily knocking on the office door. Keelan cried into my shoulder and mum rushed over.
"What happened?"
"Ashton happened, mum." I said before dropping the plastic into her hands. I then walked upstairs hearing my mum yell at Ashton.
I placed Keelan into his bed, crawling in beside him.
"It's okay, I will get you a new one. I promise." I heard a knock at the door and I reluctantly opened it.
There stood Calum.
"What do you want?" I groaned.
"Can I speak to Keelan?" I nodded swinging the door open. Calum walked in and Keelan hid under the cover. Calum kneeled down and tried to pull the cover off.
"Keelan? Look, vroom, vroom." Keelan's small head popped out from underneath the cover.
I saw a metal toy car in Calum's hand as he drive it over the lumps and bumps in the duvet.
"Wow, that's a very cool car!" He exclaimed, Calum chuckled.
"My dad gave me it when I was a little bit older than you. He said to keep it safe, and now I'm a bit older, I think I'm too old for this car, so I want you to have it, to replace the one Ashton ruined." Calum said and Keelan nodded, Calum passed the four year old the car and I touch Calum shoulder.
"Are you sure? He can cope a few days without a car." I told Calum stood up.
"Yeah. I don't want the memories anymore." He said before leaving, I stood confused, why were these boys so intriguing?
I sat next to Keelan as he played with his new car.
I told Keelan to come back downstairs, he followed and we went into the kitchen to retrieve food. Mum was in the office with Ashton, he was crying. I suddenly felt a feeling of sadness and guilt overwhelm me.
I picked up the bread and started to make a sandwich. Keelan sat in the counter and I got him a juice box from the fridge.
Once I had made my sandwich, I helped Keelan to the floor and we went back in to play cars. I saw Calum on the couch, he was staring at the ceiling.
"You alright Cal?" I questioned, then he started shaking, Michael and Luke jumped up trying to pull him.
"HELP!" Luke screamed, it looked like Calum was having a fit but his eyes were still trained on the ceiling.
My mum ran in, trying to help the boys.
"STAR GET YOURSELF AND KEE OUT OF HERE." She screamed, I grabbed Kee and stayed in the kitchen.
"Get in the safe room boys!" My dad rushed us down into the safe room, Ashton was sat looking scared.
"You need to get her out of there Jaime." Ashton told my dad.
"I know, she can handle it, we had someone like this before." Dad replied and mum knocked on the door, she locked us in as Luke whimpered into Michael.
Smashing could then be heard, Keelan held onto me for life.
I didn't know what was happening or why.
It was at least half an hour before it all stopped and Calum's weak voice called out for the boys. Ashton was the first out as he went straight to help his friend. We all cautiously walked out and Ashton was sitting on the floor, in the mess of our living room, sitting with Calum in his lap and rocking back and forth.
"It's okay, everything is okay." I heard Ashton mutter, my heart broke at the sight.
Why did that happen?
What was wrong with these boys?
I needed to find out.
