tragedy of a hero

'give me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy.' give me someone strong, capable. let me break him into sorrow. let me mold and fold and mash and pack and flip and dice him until he can't move. let me write his feelings. but how can you establish someone's feelings on something so permanent? emotions change constantly. one moment, my hero is a muffled scream or a shout into nothingness, and the next he his wailing with pleasure. his torture reminds him how strong and capable he is. how can you break someone who does not believe they can be broken? you can't. this applies to life, too. you can be thrown around, knocked upside down. betrayed but loved by all. socialized but symbolized. people try to break you not just into two, but into little shards of your former self. shards of glass. don't be careful, you might get cut. this is why! this is why, if you don't think you can be hurt? if you don't let anyone's but your own opinion matter? no one can get to you. you are unbroken. you are a hero without a tragedy.
