|Chapter Five: We Are Now Entering Boyland. I Repeat: We Are Now Entering Boyland.|
Olivia.
“Okay so how do you feel?” Janine asked as she drove cautiously down the narrow and winding road.
Olivia let out a sigh as she propped her chin out of the open window. “Weird.” She shrugged. “Kind of stressed I guess. I mean I’m throwing myself into Boyland without knowing what to expect. My main concern is that I’ll be caught. That would be disastrous.” Janine giggled as she made a sharp turn on the narrowly curved desolate road. “Does anybody live around here? It’s seriously empty.” She said as she glanced at the woods that shrouded the road.
Janine grinned as she rolled her window down. “Yes people live here, but they usually spend most of their time at their fancy country clubs or something. Even if the academy was placed in a not-so-rich area, it would still be secluded and farther down the road anyway.” She glanced over at Olivia quickly. “You clean up good for a guy Liv. I don’t think you have anything to worry about, no one is going to catch you.”
“What if my roommate finds out?” She asked with a panicky tone.
Janine gave her a tight lipped smile. “Well at first I thought about getting you a gay roommate ‘cause you’re a girl and that meant they wouldn’t be attracted to you, but…”
“But I’ll be going there as a boy.”
She cringed. “Well yeah. I mean; not to say that gay guys are attracted to every guy out there or anything, but Liv, even dressed as a guy you’re incredibly attractive. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got hit on.”
Olivia felt a smile bubble onto her lips at the compliment. “Thanks. Sooo, what, my roommate is a straight guy?”
She cringed again. “Yeah, but if you think about it, it’s not like he’ll like you ‘cause you’ll be just like him…a guy. You have nothing to worry about Liv; you’ll be fine.”
“Yep.” She let out breathily. “I sure do hope so.”
For the next twenty minutes the pair drove in silence, the only other sounds being the rush of the wind in their ears from the open windows and the soft thrum of Nora Jones in the background.
Olivia stuck her head out of the window as the trees in front of her gradually opened up to reveal a large and shimmering lake. She smiled to herself as she took in and enjoyed the beauty of the nature around her. Janine drove across the mile long red bridge before they passed a dark blue sign that read: Bradford Academy for Boys in 5 miles.
Olivia perked up at the sight of the sign. Her heart pounded against her ribcage in anxious anticipation. Her palms grew sweaty and her mouth went dry. What if she screwed up somewhere down the line? What if her cover-up wasn’t good enough? What if she got caught?
Despite the reassurances from Janine, she still couldn’t help but doubt her carefully laid out plan. There was always a possibility that this would ultimately fail. She had read enough Quizilla and Wattpad stories, and even the book Babe in Boyland, and watched the Korean drama, You Are Beautiful to know that this could fail. There was no doubt that she would be found out by at least one person, and if it came to that she would do anything to keep her identity a secret.
Janine pulled up to a large wrought iron gate and pressed a button to the intercom that was situated near the driver’s seat. Olivia’s jaw dropped at the sight of the driveway they had driven up. It was long with bowed and curved in trees that created an arch above the drive. The car was parked before a wrought iron gate that reached a staggering height of at least thirty feet and was attached to a large red brick wall that was just as tall.
