|Chapter Seventeen: Sharing Is Caring.|
Olivia.
She stood outside her dorm door, just staring at it. She was still seething with annoyance and a smidgen of anger after her encounter with Reid’s elder brothers. She didn’t particularly like them. They were polite…well at least Corey was anyway, but from what Cash told her, it made her not like them. However, she probably should’ve been nicer to them despite what she was told—to have more of an open mind to gauge whether they were truly nice or not.
She reached a hand up to unlock her door, but hesitated. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to face Reid without mentioning that she had met his brothers. He probably wouldn’t want to hear about them after their meeting about his current behavioral status.
She pivoted on her foot to head back to Cash’s dorm, but spun right back around. Then again, she should probably go in there just to make sure that he was alright…
She lifted a shaky hand up, key in hand, to unlock her door. With much of a struggle she somehow managed to insert her key into the lock and push open the door. The door swung open with an almost inaudible creak; it was eerie sounding, and it certainly didn’t help that her room was dark either.
She fought the urge to flick the light switch on—despite her fear of the dark—just in case Reid was sleeping. She tiptoed into the room, but left the door ajar just in case she needed a quick escape. As she edged closer to Reid’s bed she let out a sigh of relief as she saw Reid’s sleeping form.
She turned back and closed the door quietly. When she turned back around she jumped and let out a small yelp of surprise. Reid was sitting up in bed and was glaring at her as if she hadn’t closed to door quietly enough.
She held a hand over her heart and breathed out, “Hey Reid; I thought you were sleeping.”
He nodded at her. “Hey, where’ve you been man?”
She shrugged and shoved her hands into the pockets of her skinny jeans. “Cash’s room.”
An awkward silence lapsed over the two. Olivia bit her lip as she continued to contemplate bringing up his brothers. Would it be inappropriate since they weren’t even really friends, but just roommates who didn’t get along? Or would she be helping him by asking so he could vent? However long she thought about it, she didn’t have to think much longer because Reid had beat her to it.
“Sorry you got dragged away like that.” She lifted her head to stare at him. His head was bowed as he scratched at the back of his neck, but she could tell that it wasn’t because it was itchy, rather it was because he felt uncomfortable and was using it as a way to avoid eye contact.
She shrugged. “It’s whatevs man. You had some personal stuff I guess, and it’s not like we’re close or anything for it to be my business.”
Reid stopped his incessant scratching and glanced up at her. “You’re not even the least bit curious?”
“Nope.” She said as she made her way to her side of the room.
“You’re not going to ask me a million-and-one questions?”
“Nope.” She said as she shrugged off her blazer and loosened her tie.
“Nothing at all?”
She sighed and tossed both articles of clothing onto her mattress. “Look, if you want to talk about it, go ahead, I’ll listen. But like I said, it’s not my business, so why should I ask you about it? You didn’t look too happy when those two guys were sitting in our room. It’s not my place to ask since I’m not your best friend; Cash is.”
