|Chapter Fourteen: More Things in Common.|
Olivia.
“Sooo, how’s your sister doing?”
Olivia’s eye twitched in irritation, her hands curling into small fists at her sides, her shoulders tensing. “Fine.” She bit out.
“Has she said anything about me?”
Olivia wanted to scream in frustration, wanted to punch him hard in his pretty little face. “No.” She practically growled.
“Really? I find that hard to believe;” He made a grand sweeping motion with his hands toward himself. “I mean look at me!”
Olivia gave a sideways glance at Cash. He looked amused as he glanced back, the picture-perfect image of cool. Hands shoved deeply into his skinny jeans pockets, his backpack slung over one shoulder, his hair artfully messed up, and a playfully bemused smirk on his lips.
Despite Cash being her partner-in-crime, her double agent, her friend; she couldn’t find it in herself to think his expression was adorable. In fact, she found it deplorable, despicable, and down-right irksome. It didn’t help her agitation; it made it worse. If anything, his expression egged Reid on more.
For the past couple of days since Reid had met her female counterpart “Tabitha” he had been asking about her constantly. “How is she doing?” “What’s she like?” “What’s her favorite color?” “Does she have a boyfriend?” Blah, blah, blah!
At first she thought it was cute, endearing that he wanted to get to know her so much, but then he kept asking more than once a day, and then she realized it was another one of his games to get under her skin. She swore to herself that she wouldn’t let it happen, and yet, as always, he managed to anyway.
He just had this strange way about him. An eerie, creepy, and almost malicious way of getting under her skin. Cash had said he was being lenient with her unlike his past roomies, but now she was beginning to doubt it. They were headed into week five of school, and she was about ready to explode! She didn’t think she could tolerate it anymore; didn’t think she’d be able to stick it out as planned, and might eventually crack and move out and into another room.
He was still talking. Talking, and talking, and talking! It was driving her nuts. It was like there wasn’t an off button on him, and Cash wasn’t doing anything to stop it. It must be his way of punishing her for lying.
Olivia opened her mouth to yell at Reid, to tell him to shut up, that he was being obnoxious, and that if he valued his family jewels he would stop; but they had already reached their dorm, the door unlocked and hanging wide open. Reid had gone totally silent.
Olivia thought she was finally at peace, silence now filling the air, and no more yammering of stupid things to annoy her, but something about this silence was disconcerting. She closed her mouth and looked up at him. His face had gone startlingly pale, his eyes narrowed in a harsh glare, and his jaw set firmly. She had never seen him look like that, an expression filled with such…disdain, contempt.
She peered over him and into the dorm. She saw two slightly older boys sitting in their dorm. They were both tall and had angular features, and had the same captivating grey-green eyes as Reid. She remembered, vaguely, asking him if he had siblings when he had asked about ‘Tabitha.’ He had said he had two brothers, but he didn’t elaborate on it further than that and she didn’t push it.
They looked like nice boys. Both had their dark brown hair a little bit close cropped with nice stylish hairdos, and each were fashionably dressed in form-fitting clothes showing off their lean muscles. It was amazing how alike the three brothers looked; they could’ve passed for triplets if it weren’t for the slightly aged differences.
