I usually loved plane rides. I used to go on annual family vacations every summer with my parents but for some reason the plane ride to LA was awful. Maybe it had something to do with the little girl behind me who cried the entire flight because her ears hurt, or maybe it was because I sat beside a girl who would not stop talking to save her life. When we hit the runway I couldn’t be any happier. I jumped over the girl sitting beside me, grabbed my bags and ran to the front of the plane before I was stuck in there for any longer. When I got through the tunnel connected to the main part of the airport, it all sunk in. I was going to be living here, with my aunt. Moving at my age is hard enough, but not even moving with your parents? I felt tears fill my eyes but I fought then back as soon as I felt them form. I promised myself I wouldn’t cry. When I opened the door at the end of the tunnel I immediately saw my aunt. She was truly beautiful. She had long brown hair that came about half way by her ribcage. She had beautiful electric blue eyes that could make anyone melt and she had a killer body. “Kendall!” She ran over and gave me a tight hug. “Aunt Jody!” I cried back. Although I wasn’t too thrilled about moving here, she was my favourite aunt and she always treated me like a daughter. “It’s so good to see you, you’re so grown up!” She said standing back and eyeing me with a smile. I couldn’t help but look away from her. She reminded me too much of my mom. “You must me hungry, huh?” She asked. I looked back at her, “Very.” “Well come on then sweetie! I’ll take you to my favourite restaurant. It’s called “The Crab” and it’s not too far from the house so we can drop your stuff off first if you would like” I nodded in agreement and we both headed towards the parking lot entrance.

The car ride was awkward at first. I could tell that Aunt Jody was trying not to touch on the subject of my parents but I couldn’t take not talking about it anymore. I was supposed to be able to tell my Aunt everything, especially now and I had kept all of these feelings bottled up inside & her avoiding it wasn’t helping. “I’m happy my parents left me with you Auntie.” I could see her starting to relax. “I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.” My aunt smiled. “I’m so sorry Ken.” A tear formed in my eye. “I really wish you were here on different terms. I—“She paused, I could tell she didn’t want to say something that might make things worse for me. “I promise I will do whatever I can to help you through this.” She leaned over and squeezed my knee. I couldn’t help it anymore, tears starting falling from my eyes. “I just really wish I could have said goodbye.” I started sobbing and soon after aunt Jody was too.

“Here it is!” She cried. “Woah.” Was all that could escape my lips. The house was huge. Nothing like any homes I had ever seen back in Canada. It had two stories, a two car garage and a big turret. Nothing like I was used to. “Here” She grabbed one of my bags and we headed up the steps and into the front door. “Oh. My. God!” I Cried. I dropped my bags in the foyer and walked into the incredibly huge living room. I could hear my aunt laughing from behind me. “Come on. I’ll show you to your room and I’ll give you a proper tour after.” She said. I picked up the bags I had dropped and followed her up the glass window lined spiral staircase. I was in awe. My aunt opened a door at the end of the hallway and led me in. It was already filled with all of my stuff because I had sent it over beforehand and my aunt set it all up for me. It was huge. “What do you think?” She asked, clearly eager to hear my answer. “What do I think? I love it!” I cried. When I looked to my left I saw my very own bathroom. “This is mine?” I asked walking into it. “Yes ma’am.” She replied. When I stepped back into the main part of my bedroom looking straight ahead I saw a balcony. My very own balcony! I ran over and opened the two glass doors. When I stepped out I couldn’t believe my eyes. Right in front of me, my new backyard was the ocean. “Oh my god!” “I’m so glad you like it!” I heard my aunt cry from behind me. I was never really into the beach or celebrities or money or anything like that so I knew I wouldn’t really fit into LA. I mean the ocean is beautiful to look at, but being in it isn’t really my thing so I wasn’t really interested in LA either. I just wanted to finish school and either stay here for college or go back home. “Come on. I’ll show you the rest of the house then we’ll go out to eat.”

I couldn’t keep up with it all. There was so many rooms & bathrooms I couldn’t even remembered half of what I saw by the time we finished. Eventually I would know my way around but it will take some MAJOR getting used to. We pulled into this cute little restaurant right off of the boardwalk called “The Crab.” Aunt Jody was right it was basically walking distance from the house. When I stepped out of the car the breeze blew my blonde hair over my face. I pulled it back so I could see out of my chestnut coloured eyes again. When we walked in we were greeted by a beautiful girl that my auntie clearly knew. “Hi Lindsey how nice to see you again!” She pulled Lindsey into a big hug. “Nice to see you to misses Jody!” As far as I knew my auntie was single, I sure hoped she was. “Lindsey this is my niece Kendall. She just moved here from Canada.” Lindsey eyed me. For a second I thought she might be jealous of me but the feeling went away when she greeted me back. “Nice to meet you, I’m Lindsey and welcome to LA!” “Kendall.” She pulled me into a quick hug and then led us to our table. I was actually sort of jealous of her. She had perfect beachy waves in her chestnut hair, she had beautiful emerald green eyes and it was clear she did some sort of sport because she looked like she weighed around 115 pounds, bitch. I hadn’t even realized she had walked away when my auntie started talking to me again. “You know, I really think you should get a job.” My attention came rushing back. “Exactly what I was thinking.” “Were hiring if you’re interested.” I looked up to see the most gorgeous guy I had ever laid eyes on. “Really Danny?” She said with a wide smile. Did my aunt know everyone? “Ken you should apply! Oh I’m sorry Danny this is my niece Kendall. She just moved here from Canada.” “Hey.” He replied. “I’m Danny.” I was lost in his eyes. They were a pale blue that if any girl looked in they would fall in love with him. “Nice to meet you.” I said calmly.  He nodded his head. A “Nice to meet you too Kendall!” would have been nice. “So you want an application for the job?” I looked from Danny to my aunt. Her eyes were filled with so much hope & excitement. I couldn’t let her down, I mean she put her life on hold to accept me into her home, I could at least take the job she wanted me to get so badly. “I’d love one.”
