“Aw I’m so happy for you Kendall!” Katy said smiling. I invited Katy and Lindsey to tell them about Danny and I. “Me too.” Lindsey added smiling. “I just feel so bad about Austin you know? I didn’t want things to end that way.” My smile fell. I really did feel bad about Austin. “I owe him an apology.” I said, still looking down at my bed. “Let’s go down to the beach. Austin told me he was going down there today and if you see him you can apologize.” I sighed. I wanted to apologize to him but I just couldn’t get the hurt look he gave me at the house and seeing him would just hurt me more. “Ok.” I said getting off of my bed and fixing my top. I needed to stop thinking about myself. He was the one who found me with Danny, if there was anyone who should be hurt, it was him.
“There he his!” Lindsey pointed down to the Ice Cream Shack. “Who’s that?” Katy asked. I looked over to see Austin sharing an ice cream with some girl I didn’t know. For a second I felt a rush of jealousy, but then I realized I totally deserved this. Plus we weren’t even a thing anymore. “I guess he’s into rebounds.” Lindsey stated. I turned to glare at her but she just put her hands up and shrugged. “Ok. Wait for me here.” I said walking off to the Ice Cream Shack. “Hey Austin.” I said as I walked up to the table. He looked up at me. “Can I talk to you for a sec?” He nodded and stood up. “One sec Ellie.” We walked over behind the Ice Cream Shack so that no one could hear us. “What is it Kendall?” He was clearly still angry. His hands were balled up into fists and his facial expression looked angry. He looked better than ever. “I owe you an apology.” I said, looking at the ground. I didn’t want to make eye contact with him. “Things shouldn’t have ended the way that they did. If I could change it I would.” I said, still not making eye contact. His hand lifted up to my chin and tilted it up to make me look at him. “I forgive you Kendall.” I couldn’t help but smile. He pulled me into a hug and kissed me on the cheek. “So who’s that girl?” I said gesturing to the front of the shack. “That’s Ellie. A friend.” He smiled. “Sorry for interrupting.” I smiled innocently. “No problem.” “Friends?” He quickly added. I nodded in agreement. Having Austin as a friend sounded really good. “Well I should leave you to get back to your date.” I said walking around the shack. “See you later Kendall!” He called from behind me. “See yeah!” I called back.
The rest of the afternoon was basically Lindsey, Katy and I sun bathing at the beach and them checking out the cute guys. I admit I kind of wished I could have joined them but I was happy with Danny. I went home around 4 to have supper with Aunt Jody. We had stir fry, one of my favourites. After cleaning up Aunt Jody went back to watching The Last Song. “Mind if I watch with you?” I said plopping down on the couch next to my aunt. “Of course not.” The next 4 hours consisted of us watching not only The Last Song but The Vow and Safe Haven. My phone went off beside me. Call from Him<3 Read my phone. I clicked answer and put the phone up to ear getting off the couch so my aunt wouldn’t hear us. “Hey Babe.” I said into the phone. “Hey baby.” He said. “What are you doing tonight?” I looked at my aunt putting in The Notebook into the DVD player. “Nothing.” I said into the phone. “Why? I asked. “Well there’s another bonfire party at the beach and I was wondering if you wanted to come? I’m going after work so around 10.” “Sure.” I said into the phone. “See you then.” He said. “See you then.” I said then hung up. “Um auntie I’m going to have to skip this one, I have to get ready.” “Where are you going?” She asked sitting down on the couch. “The bonfire party.” I said. “Ok.” She said after a moment of silence. I even thought she was going to say no. I headed up stairs to shower and get ready.
“Do I look good auntie?” I asked as she came down the stairs. “Of course!” I smiled. I was wearing a floral dress that was tight until the waist then it flared out. My hair was down in beachy waves and my makeup was a little smoky. I wanted to look my best. I looked at my phone, 10:05. It read. “See you later auntie.” I said heading towards the patio door. “Bye!” She called after me before I closed the patio door.
“Wow.” I said when I got to the party. The music was booming and there was people everywhere. Everyone had a drink in there hand and there was even a little area people started dancing. I texted Katy and Lindsey on the way here to ask if they were both coming and they both said yes. “Kendall!” I looked over to see where the voice was calling me. It was Lindsey and Katy waving me over to their direction. I smiled in relief. It was so packed I didn’t think I’d find anyone here. “Hey.” I said walking up to them. “Want a drink?” Katy said handing me a cooler. I wasn’t a big drinker but I usually did at parties. “Sure.” I said smiling and taking the cooler. I popped the top off and took a sip. “Guys I’m just going to go find Danny ok?” I said over the booming music. “What?” Lindsey yelled. “I’m going to find Danny!” They nodded and I headed off into the wild crowd. There was some people in the water too.
I still couldn’t find Danny and my drink was already finished. I sighed as I threw the glass in a trash can close by. I walked over to the little bathroom as I needed to pee. As I walked up to the bathroom I heard a girl’s voice. “So I hear your dating that Kendall girl.” The girl said. I walked up and pressed my ear to the door. “Yeah, I am.” It was Danny’s voice. “You know I’m better than her.” She said clearly whispering it against his neck. “She’ll never be me.” She finished. After a few moments of silence Danny’s voice finally rang threw the air. “You’re right. She’ll never be you.” My mouth dropped to the floor. He was such a liar. Not even 72 hours and he was already cheating on me? I felt tears falling down my cheek but I still didn’t take my ear from door. Then I heard sounds of kisses and a soft moan escaped the girl’s mouth. That’s when I took my ear from the door. Tears fell from my cheeks faster and faster. I took off running down the beach and up the pier and headed back to the house. I hated him. I never wanted to see him again. Now I meant it more than ever.
