Scarlett's POV

Every time I thought about Sally's answer in the Q&A I couldn't help smiling; she had been brave, much braver than I ever knew she could be. It was all over the news, people were questioning the way reporters had covered the stories and all of a sudden Sally was in the spotlight. I didn't mind being thrown to the sidelines, I'd had enough of reading headlines about me and my ex boyfriend.

My mum walked in that morning with a tray of food for breakfast and despite the lovely gesture I couldn't understand why she was doing it. It wasn't my birthday or even a special day; it was just a day.

"Hey mum," I said with fake enthusiasm as she sat on the end of my bed watching me eat.

"Hey sweetie," she said giving me a bright smile with her shiny white teeth.

"What's the occasion mum?" I asked suspiciously whilst taking a bite out of the toast.

"Well sweetie, you know your boyfriend..."

"Ex boyfriend mum," I said in a stern voice. She had been dropping hints ever since I got back about my ex boyfriend and how I should have given him another chance. She didn't understand how broken I had been, how he had wrecked me.

"Darling he's what's best for you, this criminal is nothing more than a piece of dirt," I could hear the disgust in her voice. It was the same disgust that she used when talking about the way Sally had spoken. Or Jen being a young mother. Or Hannah being homeless. Or the fact that Ava never called the police on her father. She didn't understand anything outside of her prim and proper bubble that she tried to encase everyone in till they were suffocated in perfume and ironed dresses.

"I love him," I pursed my lips together, I would not loose this battle.

"You don't even know him," she spat at me before standing up to straighten out her dress.

"You don't even know me," I shouted at her as she walked out my door, afraid of being shown as wrong. She hated loosing, she hated defeat.

Thumping my pillow I sank back down again and grasped for my phone that was sitting on my bedside table. The harsh light burned my eyes and I blinked several times before unlocking the screen.

Ignoring my messages I went straight to call Sally and see how she was; the phone rang and rang but finally she picked up.

"Scarlett..." She croaked, her voice quiet and afraid.

"Oh my God Sally are you ok?" I gushed down the phone.

"My dad....."

"He's not.."

"No but last night he had a heart attack, he's been placed on life support," I could hear the hoarseness of her throat as she spoke, she had been crying for a long time.

"Sally..."

"Scarlett is it alright if I hang up, I want to be with him right now," I could hear the the drone of noise in the background and Sally's silent sobs down the phone.

"Of course," I said grudgingly and the line went dead. Sighing I got out of bed and threw on some clothes before sitting back down on my bed again. There had been a lack of excitement since I got home, no more thrills to contend with. I was waiting every second for the action to start again, almost wishing for something new to happen.

About half an hour later someone knocked on my door again, this time they didn't wait for me to answer and they barged right in. I was faced with my old friends, the fake ones as I liked to refer to them. There was Kelsy and Indigo, both stunning brunettes with not a lot of brain cells. Before the game we used to go out and party, gossip and do all sorts but when you realise what true friendship is you can't look past their faults.

"Scar we've missed you hun!" Kelsy gushed before tackling me onto the bed and squealing. Indigo joined in but only mildly as to not ruin her makeup.

"Oh my god we saw you on telly last night!"

"Yeah..." I mumbled and looked away, hoping that they didn't want to stay long.

"Yeah you and your batty friends. That Sally girl was nuts!" Indigo cackled loudly and I couldn't help the anger that bubbled inside of me.

"Get out!" I shouted at them.

"Scar babe it's us, your best friends forever," Kelsy pouted.

"GET OUT!" I shrieked at them and they both finally stood up and waltzed out.

"Don't come running back to us when you're bored of your weirdo friends," Kelsy said with a mean glare which I returned. I didn't need them, I didn't need anyone but my four sisters.

Nobody picked up their phones, they all rang until my patience wore thin and I threw the phone at the wall. Running my hands through my hair I couldn't help but hear Kelsy's words ring through the air, I couldn't help but remember how I had seen her as a best friend.

Grabbing the stack of paper that was resting on my bed table, I turned off the lights leaving only the glow from the dying sun to help my read.

Dear Diary,

Today the other girls called war against me, somehow they have devised a plot without me hearing. I have a slight hunch that they are going to kill me in a group activity. The boss will not stop it, he likes the gore too much.

I hate this stupid game, I want to go away and see my family and friends again. These girls are no friends of mine, I thought they were but as we get deeper into the game I have realised that they are nothing more than desperate skanks who know nothing about the world.

They are in love with the boss for crying out loud, they love him. They want to have an intimate relationship with him. Either the walls of this prison cell have made them mad or they were never right in the head before.

Anna

I was glad that I wasn't Anna, I couldn't imagine going through that experience alone for the whole time. My five companions had given me hope from the first time I saw them.

Curling up in a ball I closed my eyes and tried to clear my head, the thoughts halted briefly and I felt an overwhelming calm wash over me. Sighing I let sleep take over and saw nothing but darkness. That suited me fine, the real world was far too dramatic.
