Ten of Hearts- Outside time for 4 hrs
Hannah's POV
My eyes twitched in the darkness, weary from days of nonexistent sleep. Some time outside my cell would mean a nice break from the insanity which locked me up every second that I was sat in my cell. Ava had told me to think of good thoughts but I had none to remember, none to soothe my frantic brain.
At least I would see the girls again, that was the only happy thought I could muster up. I had never had any friends that were girls, I suppose I usually was with the boys. The girls envied the relationship that I had built up with their crushes and being the idiot I was, I milked it. It only led to arguments and a lot of fights. They never hurt me but I hurt them; the older I got the more the boys stuck up for their bimbos. I was alone again.
In the real world, a person like Sally or Scarlett would aggravate me; they seemed like plastic. Goody two shoes. Jen seemed more up my street but I couldn't read her, it was like she was trying to be someone else to who she was- she was protecting something. And then there was Ava, she intimidated everyone around her with her fierce attitude and stunning good looks. We were all attractive in one sense or another but Ava was beyond beauty, words couldn't describe her. She oozed confidence.
My guard threw me about as we went outside, knowing fully well that I wouldn't fight back. I was too far gone to feel the pain they tried to inflict. Outside I saw the four faces which I had conjured up in the darkness at times of boredum. They were all facing me smiling and suddenly I didn't want to go and sit outside because it meant faking happiness. It meant faking that I was alright so the others could focus on the plan. I didn't want to waste time on my tiny issues.
"Hey Hannah, how are ya?" said Scarlett who was always happy, she gave me a lopsided grin and I forced a smile back.
"Good yeah, I'm good," I stuttered back and ran towards my seat trying to hide my embarrassment.
"So the plan," Ava said loudly and clearly which caused me to look at her with a glare. Did she not realise that they were listening? I thought that she would be especially careful, with her extensive knowledge of the game. The other girls looked at her with the same pissed off, confused look and she gave us a sheepish smile. It was the first time I had seen her confidence falter.
"It's fine guys, they don't listen after the first one. They check and see if we started plotting something and if we don't then they get bored. They don't really care," she said loudly, as if that proved her point. Staring at her, it only occurred to me that she might not be who she said she was. She could have been an undercover spy and yet we didn't even question her story. The other girls had calmed down and were waiting for Ava to continue but Ava was now staring at me, confused by my harsh glare.
"What if you're lying?" I said out loud, regretting it almost immediately because the other girls looked at me like I was evil. And that is why I never had any girl friends.
"What if your lying?" she said accusingly, hiding the hurt that she had got from my accusation.
"Maybe I am," I said vaguely, trying to read her expression. I could tell that she was upset but I could see that she was angry as well. She was a fiery character who didn't like to be defied.
"Maybe I am as well," she spluttered back, not quite knowing how to respond. It was quiet for a minute as Ava seethed and I sat guiltily.
"It has been playing on my mind recently. Not because I don't trust you all but I just want to be sure. Hannah is right in a sense, we don't know anything really about each other. It was just the way she said it that came across the wrong way," Jen trailed off her sentence as we all stared at her. The others nodded and Ava's face turned from anger to a more understanding one. I sighed in relief and told myself to not pull stunts like that again without planning them.
