Massie strutted to school. As usual, she was wearing one of the new glamorous outfits she bought at the mall. Her outfit consisted of cute designer denim shorts, a Dolce and Gabbana floral print shell top, and pink platform sandals. Massie had her hair in a braid and she wore her favorite berry blast Glossipgirl lipgloss. Massie's gold bangles jiggled as she moved her wrist.
"I hope I'm a ten," Massie smiled at her compact mirror. She entered the school and noticed a bulletin board that had papers on it.
Play dress rehearsal at 3:30 today after school in the auditorium.
Massie felt nervous. After all, everyone would be wearing the clothes I made, Massie thought. She found Sarah, and Mark, both of them staring at Massie.
"Uh, what are you looking at?" Massie asked. "We just wanted to know if things are fine. Yesterday, you seemed angry at us," Sarah explained.
"Sorry about yesterday. It was just a silly mistake," Massie waved her hand," I'm not mad at any of you guys!"
"Ok, cool," Mark nodded his head.
Massie noticed how awkward they were all being. I hope they don't act like that for long, Massie thought as she walked to her history class.
----------------------------------------
It was after school and Massie headed to the auditorium early so she could prepare her materials and get all the the clothes they would be using in the play. Massie noticed that Olivia's dress had a long thread poking out of the fabric. Massie entered the backstage and found a scissor. But when Massie spun around, she saw the most horrific sight; Olivia flat on the floor with two, red punch-marks on her neck.
"Oh no, you can't be dead," Massie held her own head in her hands," what am I gonna do?"
"STOP RIGHT THERE!"
Massie jumped and dropped the scissors to the floor. Mr. Harvey and the rest of the crew had arrived and they were all staring at Massie and Olivia.
"I can explain-" Massie began but was cut off by Wendy.
"No need. We already know what you did, right Courtney?" Wendy smiled.
"Yeah, you wanted the lead role of the play, but that was Olivia's part, so you decided to stab her with those scissors," Courtney accused.
"WHAT? EH MA GAWD!" Massie glared.
Suddenly a voice spoke up.
"Massie didn't do it! I know she didn't! And besides Courtney, how can a pair of scissors stab someone? If they could, I would've stabbed you a long time ago!"
Massie looked at the speaker and was happy to see that it was Sarah.
Thanks, Massie mouthed at her.
What else could I have done, Sarah mouthed back.
"First of all, Massie give me the scissors," Mr. Harvey stretched out a hand. Massie's fingers brushed against Mr. Harvey's fingers as she was giving the scissor. Mr. Harvey's hand was freezing cold. Just like Massie's. Their eyes met before Mr. Harvey looked away. "So Mr. Harvey, what do we do?" Mark asked.
"Well, I called the hospital and they are coming to take her away. But for her part, I'm not sure who should play it?" Mr. Harvey scratched his head.
He's acting weird lately, Massie thought, and then about the play. I think Sarah should play it!
"I think Sarah Hirsh would play the perfect part. She knows all the lines," Massie said.
"All right. But who will be assistant director?" Mr. Harvey asked."that was Sarah's part!"
"I want to be assistant director. We don't need two maids in the play," Wendy said," Courtney could the only maid."
"All right," Mr. Harvey agreed.
The hospital took away Olivia, and then everyone went back to their work.
Massie was sizing different fittings for Sarah since Olivia and Sarah were completely different sizes.
Soon enough, Mr. Harvey clapped his hands to show that it was time to wrap up.
"Ugh!" Massie groaned. Sarah hadn't even tried how the dress fit her!
In no time, Massie was the last person left in the auditorium.
Oh dear, Sarah forgot her dress, Massie thought, and the play is tomorrow!
"I'll just stop by her home and give it to her!" Massie said. She walked out of school with the dress tucked neatly under her arms.
Massie remembered the address Mark had once given her.
When Massie stopped in front of the Hirsh's house, she was surprised to see that they lived in The Estates.
They must be rich, Massie thought as she rang the doorbell.
A women answered, with light brown, wavy hair, like Mark's hair.
"Hello! You must be Massie. Sarah and Mark have told us they might expect you sooner or later," the woman smiled. Her voice sounded familiar.
Oh, Mark told me that Miranda Hirsh is his mom, Massie remembered.
Miranda escorted Massie into the living room where a bald guy with deep blue eyes was reading the newspaper.
"Hello there!" He smiled.
"Wait a minute, are you that famous talk show guy?" Massie got excited.
"Yes," the guy smiled," so what are you doing here?"
"I'm giving Sarah her clothes for the play. She forgot it," Massie replied.
"Really? Is it the play about bats and vampires? Because I think Mark would be right at h-" Miranda slapped Mark's father, which cut him off,
"It's all right. I feel right at home too because I'm a vampire," Massie said.
"You are?" Mr. Hirsh and Ms. Hirsh both gaped at her.
By then, Sarah and Mark and come down to see what the commotion is about.
"Why is everyone looking like that?" Sarah asked.
"She's a vampire," Miranda pointed at Massie.
"I knew that. She told me that and I told her that I was a vampire too," Mark smiled at Massie.
"What? No fair! How come you didn't tell me?" Sarah pouted.
"Because I swore to keep her a secret," Mark said in a voice that said it was obvious.
"Well, how many members are vampires in your family?" Miranda asked Massie.
"Just me. Other than my great great grandmother," Massie answered.
"Mark and I are vampires.
However, Jonathan and Sarah aren't," Miranda explained.
"Wow, I have never thought of you as the kind of person who could be a vampire. It just...never crossed my mind," Sarah said.
"Bye kids. Have fun!" Miranda and Jonathan waved, as the trio headed upstairs.
"Welcome to our room!" Sarah escorted Massie into the biggest room she's ever seen in her whole life. The room was almost he size of Massie's room and her parents room and the guest room all combined into one!
Half the room was blue and black and had black chalkboard paint on the wall so Mark could draw or write. The other half was pink, white, and yellow and it had white chalkboard paint. There were two bathrooms in the room.
"Wow," Massie said, impressed,
"I know. Everyone does that when they come into our room," Sarah laughed.
She sat on her white canopy bed while Mark sat in his black replica of Sarah's bed. "I'll sit on the window seat if that's fine with you," Massie bit her lip.
"If you guys were really this rich, then how come you didn't dress like it?" Massie asked.
"Well, being rich doesn't really make a difference. I could be poor or rich and I would still be me. It's being who you are that really counts not what others want you to be. That's why I never cared for popularity. Everyone is just in a big scheme. And besides, how would you know if your friends really like you or if they just like your money?" Sarah explained to Massie.
This made Massie think about all the times she's ever tried to impress someone. Did they even like her?
Or was everyone just impressed by her? Massie knew Sarah was right. Just look at how Dylan and Alicia became. That isn't friendship.
"You're right," Massie whispered.
All this time she was playing a scheme. Which made her a phony. And Massie did nawt want to be a phony.
From now on, I'll be true to myself, Massie thought.
"Anyways, what brings you here today, Massie?" Mark asked.
"Oh, Sarah forgot this," Massie shoved Sarah's dress in her arms.
"Oops, my bad!" Sarah giggled.
"Anyways, now that we all know that Massie is a vampire, can we discuss who the Dark One might be? Due to an incident last time, we weren't able to discuss anything," Mark said.
Massie blushed, understanding what Mark was saying.
"Who could be our suspects?" Sarah asked.
"I was thinking Nurse Adele but then she was proven innocent. I also thought Mark but then he was also proven innocent too," Massie shrugged.
"A Dark One is usually sick if they go without blood for a few days," Massie repeated from memory.
"What about Mr. Harvey? He's always sick, but he's been very healthy lately," Sarah said slowly," but that might be a dumb coincidence."
"No! I think you're right Sarah. After every attack, Mr. Harvey always looks healthy. Also, when I was giving him the scissors today, his hand brushed my hand and it felt super cold. Like a vampires. Also, he was the one who suggested that the janitor was crazy. He probably didn't want to blame anyone. And didn't he say he stopped acting when he was twelve? You turn into a vampire at the age of twelve and that means you won't be able to appear in cameras," Massie concluded,
"Are you sure? Those are all some good points though," Mark bit his lip.
"Trust me," Massie smirked as she stood up," Massie Block is never wrong!"
"Then let's plan!" Sarah squealed.
And with that, they group started to plan.
