Piper walked into Defense Against the Dark Arts feeling nervous. She hadn't forgotten about George Weasley. Neither had she forgotten about Jason's reaction to George. And still worse, the Gryffindors had DADA with the Ravenclaws.
She wanted to see her boyfriend and everything, but she was worried about what he'd say to George. And there was also the fact that since he'd kissed that Ravenclaw girl, she was going to have to stick to her policy of not talking to him.
She turned to Hazel. "What's this class about, again?"
Hazel's golden eyes sparkled. "It's like combat lessons. With magic."
Piper giggled. "Well, whenever Reyna has this class, she should be a pro at it. Remember how she jinxed that Malfoy boy?"
Hazel laughed in her chocolaty voice. "It's all over the school."
They came fully into the classroom and headed towards the back corner, where they could see Annabeth, Calypso, Hermione, Ginny, and two other girls that Piper had never seen before. They were clearly twins. Both had red, curly hair, pale skin with a few freckles, tawny brown eyes, and heart-shaped faces, but that was where the similarity ended. One had bright eyes that darted around the room, and the other had eyes that remained fixed on the desk, not seeming to see it. One had a wide smile and flushed cheeks, and the other had a serious expression.
Clearly, this class had both seventh and eighth years, because Piper didn't remember these girls from any of her other classes, and it was the third day into the semester- as British people said, the term.
She and Hazel waved at Ginny and the two new girls as they sat down at the nearest empty desks. Piper cleared her throat pointedly at Ginny, and glanced at the twins.
Ginny laughed. "Piper, Hazel, may I introduce the Misses Margaret and Marianne Montgomery."
Marianne- the bright-eyed one- laughed. "Come off it, Ginny." She smiled frankly at Piper and Hazel. "I'm Molly," she grinned, "and this is Meg."
Margaret looked up with a groan. "It sounds awful that way. It's supposed to be 'Meg and Molly', not 'Molly and Meg'. Besides, I'm the eldest."
Molly laughed playfully, not at all fazed by the reprimand. "You're the eldest by two minutes, Meg."
Annabeth, Calypso, and Hermione were all smiling in an amused way.
Piper looked around the room, eager to take everything in. The walls were made of light stone, and the floor was of a shining marble checkered pattern. There was one wall covered with books, and another with... clothes. Hats, cloaks, wristwatches, and belts lined it so that you couldn't even see the wall behind it.
The desk at the front of the room was occupied, and at the sight of its occupant Piper's breath caught at her throat.
George saw her and waved with a dry smile. Piper waved and grinned back until she saw Jason coming into the room. She promptly turned and struck up a conversation with Molly Montgomery.
"So," she started, "how do you like your seventh year so far?"
Molly smiled. "It's been great, aside from all the classes I have with the Slytherins."
