Delaney hoisted herself up onto the ledge, once again taking her time. She didn't have anyone she would miss, or anyone who would miss her.
She guessed her life would end that summer, nothing could stop that. Her life had never been that miraculous-yet she wasn't being pushed into this. Nothing bad had ever happened to her, she wasnt bullied, abused, or even poor.
Maybe the boredom just made Delaney loose interest.
Delaney's ears twitched at the sound of rubber tires on the wet pavement."Hey! Get off of there!"
The vioce yelled urgently.
The person had rolled down their window, staying their car."No, i'm fine. " she speaks back, with an unexpected crack at the end.
Delaney didn't dare to turn and give the voice a face.
Seeing them would show herself, and that was something she couldn't do. It would mean showing them her purpose for standing on the bridge. She hears the car door open.
"Can you just get down? It's dangerous up there."
It was a guy's vioce. Without thinking
She turned herself around-
The sticker on the car was from her highschool.she recognized
The tall blonde boy standing outside of it.
She would never tell him that, nobody knew her.
"I'm not supossed to talk to strangers, now go away- please."She stared back into the waters.
Why did everything in Delaney's life have to go wrong? There was a silence in the air as the mystery returned itself behind her. Her back shutting out the boy she once knew."I'm not a stranger, Delaney."
She turned around to see the blonde boy's arm extended out to her. He had serious expression pasterd on his face. Knowing it was no use to try to get him to leave, she got herself back to the pavement.
"Do you remeber me?from middle-"
"Actually we go to the same highschool... Carter."
Delaney interupts him.
Carter chuckles,"See! I knew it! You were the first girl i ever dated."
"Yeah."
Delaney breathes out, trying to mimick a laugh. Carter had been her first boyfriend, but none had come after so it didnt seem to mean the same thing to him.
After a pause, Carter asks
"So uh... what were you doin' up there?""Nothing." Delaney sickles
He takes a long hard look at her.
" you were gonna jump, weren't you."She couldnt say no, he made Delaney feel so ashamed, but no part made her regret herself.
"Yes, but that doesn't make me a bad person!" Delaney yells
Carter throws his hands in the air
"But why! Why would want to end your life?!"Delaney stutters
"I-i don't know-""What!?"
I-i guess it just isn't my style." She grimmances at her own stupidity
"Not your style!LIFE is not your stlye! If that isnt teen angst- than i dont know what is.""Shut up!" Delaney cries "how would you know? You actually HAVE a life! You have everything! Theres nothing i love,NOTHING for me!" She pounds her fist on her chest
Carter processes himself for a minute.
"You're right, but you're also wrong." He says relaxing his shoulders
" i'm in love with life. I know what makes me happy.""Yeah, and i don't " Delaney sulks.
"Then let me show you."
"Excuse me?"
"At the end you can do what you want-get back on this bridge or whatever, but tonight
I'm gonna show you what it means to live."Delaney stood away from him, reluctant to meet his eyes. This couldn't be right. All she had to was jump, without someone like Mr.perfect getting in the way.
Yes, all she had to was jump. But maybe all she had to do was listen. This guy didn't know sorrow or despair, but maybe he knew how to live.
She could still leave this life afterwords, despite the minor postponing events.
And it's not like this would take up much of Delaney's time,
Because she didn't beleive there was many things that made life worth it.
"I decide?" She questions him.
"Yes, whatever you choose. But first have something to decide from."
"Fine, I'll go." Her voice rang through the night.
She saw Carter's entire face turn into a smile.
"But, it doesn't mean I'm changing my mind." She calls back to him.
