When thinking about it in the realist terms, Delaney and Carter are strangers and always have been. No matter how many secrets they share or lessons they learn together, the two would be better apart.
But that doesnt mean never being influenced by the other.
Without her he would never let go, and her, never to accept.
Yes, these two are strangers, with a strange fit. A comination that makes an explostion, one that is destructive, but still burns bright.
See, Carter isn't perfect. If it isn't obvious,  he carries his own crap like everyone else. He's flawed with compassion, needing to fulfil his quest to the end. By helping himself with his help of others.
But he cares too much.

Delaney is the opposite.
With someone as unique as she,her independence has taken over. She convinced herself that nothing is special. There is nothing worth the time,or fascination, or energy. Not ever her. She didn't find herself worth it.
All things went down hill when she found someone who did.
