Somehow, the gravity pulled them higher.
Delaney would think her swing had run out for good, but it would never fail to soar. Her hair began to dry by the wind. Her messy braid was falling apart, her bangs were starting curl into a frizz, like they always did after they were wetted.
Her damp t-shirt clung to her figure, but cooled the summer night in a perfect balance.
She yanked the hair-tie, un-knotting her braid.
Her brown hair fell loose. She saw Carter eyes turn to her as she pushed the hair out of her eyes.
She didn't dare look back at him, instead she shielded herself with a smile, looking up through the trees to the sky.
"I think it's getting lighter," she comments,
Her eyes finnaly seeing pin point details of night that the dark had been blocking.
She inhaled deeply, morning was close. She could make it.
Carter doesn't hesitate to jump from his moving swing, flying for a meer moment, then landing in the mulch surrounding the swings.
"Quick," he holds out his hand to Delaney,
She cautiously jumps off of her swing.
Her grabs her hand, pulling her away from the playground and down to the path.
Delaney silently said goodbye to the place, giving it one last regard. Her young self was now lost, she was going to now grow and live.
The rush was the same, one of them taking the other to a new and exciting place. It would've been simple to just announce where they were going, but no, each wanted to give the other the element of surprise. The pure thought of seeing something for the first time.
To them, everyday things were a new discovery. With the help of each other they were able to see that. They would cling to anything found somewhat interesting, because both of them knew in their own way, how quickly it could be stripped from them.
When clearing away from the tree, Carter steered her off road of the path.
Making sure no branches blocked the view of the sky, Carter collapsed himself to the grass.Like the mud holding them together, their intertwined hand pulled Delaney down to the ground with him.
They both lay on their backs, while Carter says,
"I promised you that you'd see the stars by the end of tonight."
Away from everything, the dark sky had bullet holes, like one had shot at the dark sky in anger, wishing to the light that shined behind the atmosphere.
The stars lit up in Delaney's eyes.
"You always keep your promises."
When she turned her head to look at him, the stars reflected onto his face. Not in the way of light, but his emotion was shinning.
"I can always look at these stars and feel happy." He says, catching her eye.
"I wish I could find something like that." She swallows, her throat bobbing as it catches itself.
Her eyes start to burn. Here she was vulnerable as hell, with no controll of the blue will of her. She wanted it gone, she wanted it gone so badly.
"Then never stop looking until you do."
Carter squeezes her hand.
"You're not the only one who feels the way you do, Delaney. Brady's the same way, he's got the same sadness that never leaves."
