.
"I didn't know you were a poet."

Carter says to the thick night air.

"Oh I'm not," Delaney says quickly- she wasn't anything. She hadn't even thought of poetry for years untill tonight.

"I was just leaving Erin a message, she was nice to me when she didn't have to be."
She turned to look out the window, the street scarce of cars.

"See! You rhymed, poetry!" He exclaimed excitedly.

Delaney continued to ignor him, she didn't want any attention for her emo poems.

"It was a good poem." He says solemnly. He stared straight ahead at the road.

Delaney didn't ask where they were going, she just let him drive.
Carter would it explain it soon enough.
Carter would explain everything.

The road shifts into a wider division. The buildings were taller, stronger, and traffic light reflected a cinimatic show onto the black pavement.

Nearing the end of the main street, the came to a large parking lot the one filled more than any other place durring the night.

"Carter, we're at a hospital." She tells him.

Carter expression is grim, dreading getting out of this car.

"I know." He breathes out heavily.

He clamped his mouth, almost as if trying to hold something in. Whether it being words , an explanation, or another feeling that Delaney couldn't detect.

Finally he moves,
They trudge through the parking lot.

The automatic door slide open, they had been waiting for the chance .

Carter walked imeadiatly over to the desk.

The Secretary groggely perked up.

"Hello Carter," she says rubbing her eyes

"Good evening Sheryl, is she
still -" he stopped mid sentence.

Sheryl knoded

"Go right on up." She gave them both a pitiful smile.

Carter led Delaney to the elevator,
He was so familiar with this place.
So much that the entire journey up the the chute she wanted to shower him with million questions.

The doors opened.
Delaney was unfamilar with the feel of this place, the quiet halls, the quiet rooms, the distant sound of machines beeping.
She didn't like it .
It was undeniably anxious in every corner.

Carter went towards the sign pionting Cardiactrics . He grimmanced at the Treatment center sign.

Down the hallway Carter enterd the first room on the right.
Delaney followed.

Carter stands motionless infront of the beeping girl in the hospital bed.

She looked no less than acouple years younger than them. She had pretty blonde hair and assumed blue eyes hidden by jer closed lids. She had a tune stuck up her nose and an IV in her wrist.
Delaney caught herself feeling her own, but stopped .
She didn't want smear the ink.

The girl was alone in this room,
There was another bed on the opposite side of room, but it lay empty.
It gave the space a certain loneliness.

"Her name's Bella." Carter says Flatly.

Delaney could tell by his vioce that he knew her, and knew her well.

"What's gonna happen to her?" Delaney whispers.

Carter shruggs, still not breaking the gaze.

"She doesn't. .. have much time." He slurs out, he didn't want to say the words.

He shifts himself over to the empty bed. He throws himself down in a heap, dissolving in the white sheets. It seemed to fit him.

He stares up at the ceiling.

"She was here so often that her parents stopped comming. The same thing almost -" he stops.

His adams apple bobs.

"I can't imagine dying in a hospital. " he croaks

"You won't. " Delaney assures him timidly.

The two sit silently.

Delaney glances back over to Bella.
No family, no friends, dying.
Never had she seen someone so truley alone. Delaney didn't know if she was able to be awoken, or even communicate.
She was truley alone.

Delaney recalled her last hospital visit.
It was for her great-grandmother just before she passed away.
Through she never knew the woman very well , it was hard to see her go. The bitterness of that night stilled breathed through her.

"I hate hospitals."

Delaney whispers.

"Me too." Carter says back.

He then pulled himself up,
He starts to walk away and mumbles,

"Last notes aren't always happy."

He pretends Delaney doesn't hear him

"Let's get out of here." He sniffs.

Delaney waits at the doorway.
She watches as he aproaches Bella's bed one last time.

"See you soon, Bells." He kissed her cheek, which gave Delaney an unexpected sting.
He squeezed her hand.

Before deserting the doorway, Delaney took a glance at the sign above it .
