Aurora walked down the steps of Rosewood High with Lucas by her side. She was glad that they had made up, and that they could put everything behind them.
"So, Katie hasn't even shown any signs of healing?"
Katie had fallen sick since they all went to the park. Aurora found it suspicious, considering she had seen Zachariah there holding her.
"No, she hasn't, and the doctor also cannot find the reason she is ill. It's been months Aurora and I'm losing hope in her getting better."
Aurora stopped in her tracks and grabbed onto Lucas's arm to make him stop as well. She was lost for words, because she knew telling him all will be fine when she wasn't sure would just unease him more.
Aurora turned his body to her. She could see the expression of pain and despair in his eyes. She had never seen Lucas like this before. She braced him in her arms, hugging him in the most sincere way she's ever hugged anyone.
"I know saying everything will be fine will make things worse, so instead, I will say that I want you to know that I am always going to be here to help you whenever you need me. We could be fighting, but I'd always be a text or call away."
Lucas accepted her hug, which made Aurora a little better. She could hear his steady heartbeat beating against his chest, keeping a pattern to it.
"I'm sorry about how I acted those few months. I thought things would be awkward between us, and I didn't want to be put in that situation, at least not yet."
Aurora retreated from his hug and shrugged her shoulders. "You needed your space and I needed mine as well, so everything is just water under the bridge now."
Lucas softly smiled at her and asked, "Did you wish to see Katie? She hasn't had many visitors because her friends believe what she has is contagious, but if it was, I would have it by now."
Aurora smiled softly back and nodded her head. Lucas started toward his house, Aurora following behind him.
The walk to his house seemed to take forever, due to the fact that they walked in silence the whole way. Aurora's thoughts weren't even there at the moment, so she didn't mind. She was still wrapped on the situation of finding Zachariah with Katie. Did he hurt her or give her a terrible illness?
"Aurora."
Aurora snapped back into reality to realize Lucas was holding the door to his home open for her. Aurora hadn't realized he was standing there this whole time. "Is everything okay?"
Aurora nodded her head and stepped forward, walking inside his home. She stepped into a picture filled living room. There were numerous pictures of Lucas growing up from a toddler to the teenager he is now. There were also pictures of Katie, most being taken with Lucas in the picture.
"My mom is really obsessed with taking pictures of her children," Lucas said, smiling at Aurora and closing the door quietly.
"I see that," Aurora replied jokingly, looking around the room more.
"Katie is upstairs right now. She had to drop out of school for now until they figure out what's wrong with her. Mom is out grocery shopping and won't be back for awhile. She just left once school let out."
Lucas started heading for the stairs, Aurora following behind him. The steps creaked beneath each step they took. Aurora could tell the house seemed to be a little older than her own.
At the top of the steps, Lucas turned to the right and proceeded past a couple doors to the end of the hallway. He opened the door, revealing a girl's bedroom, everything being covered in pink. The carpet was about the only thing that wasn't pink. It was white with a pink rug laying on top of it in the middle of the floor. The curtains were light pink and were see-thru silk. Her covers and pillows varied amongst pinks, ranging from a pastel pink to a dark pink. In the bed laid Katie, her face dripping with sweat. Her skin tone was pale, and she had no color to her cheeks whatsoever.
