"How are you feeling Lucas?" Aurora asked, her hand gripping onto her phone.
"I am still very sick, but I am also getting better."
Aurora sighed at his words. Lucas had been fighting a stomach virus for a few days but refused to let anyone know because of his excitement on returning to Rosewood. It seemed to all hit him finally after school yesterday.
"I will come to visit you after school if that is okay."
"You know it is Aurora. I can't wait to see you. You better head off to class. I'd hate to know you are late."
Aurora smiled at his words. "Okay, I will see you soon. Bye Lucas."
"Bye Aurora."
She hung up and looked around the building. The halls seemed to be thinning from students, so Aurora knew she was going to be late.
She started for her next class, gripping the straps of her backpack. She pulled her other strap onto her shoulder, making it easier for her to carry.
"Aurora!"
The exclamation made Aurora jump a bit. She turned to see Grace walking toward her.
"Why have you not texted me?" I got worried about you yesterday."
Aurora slightly smiled and bit her lip. She did not want to tell her that she was out with Zachariah.
"I was just having the evening to myself. I am sorry for not texting you."
"It's fine, Aurora," Grace said, her lips curling to a smile. "Any plans for today?"
"I am going to see Lucas after school. I am sure he could use the company."
Grace nodded her head and continued walking. Her heels made a clacking sound that made Aurora cringe sometimes.
"Grace, do you think if Elizabeth was still alive, that we would have even became friends?"
Grace froze in her tracks and looked at Aurora. Her expression gave Aurora an uneasy feeling. "Why do you ask?" she finally asked.
Elizabeth was Aurora's best friend while she was growing up around vampires. She had beautiful brown hair and golden yellow eyes. She had always had the yellow eyes though, even before turning. It made her unique.
.................
"98, 99, 100!" shrieked Aurora as she turned around from a gigantic oak tree. The wind tussled the leaves, making an audible sound around her.
"You could not have gone far Elizabeth!" she yelled, smiling and giggling.
Aurora started running in front of her. She searched all over the trees, but Elizabeth was nowhere to be found.
She stopped at a smaller tree, leaning her weight on it to catch her breath. Suddenly, she heard a small giggle. Aurora stopped and looked around.
"Elizabeth?" she asked, looking around.
"Up here!"
Aurora turned to look at the tree and then turned her attention to the branches. There sat Elizabeth hunkered on a branch.
"Woah.." Aurora sighed, looking at the height that Elizabeth had climbed to play hide and seek freeze tag.
"Come on!" Elizabeth exclaimed, motioning for Aurora to follow up the bark of the tree.
"I cannot climb, Elizabeth!"
"That is why you are a vampire! Use your powers!"
"Elizabeth, I am only half vampire, remember?"
