Aurora and Grace sat at the kitchen table, Aurora tapping her pencil to a song that played in her head. She stared blankly at the piece of paper that sat in front of her.

"That essay isn't going to write itself, Aurora," Grace said with a sarcastic, but playful tone.

"You know how I am Gracie," she said, looking up at her friend's face. "I do not have an open imagination on the fantasy world, even if I am technically part of it."

Aurora once again looked down at her disappointing paper. Her essay was supposed to contain a fictional character and the abilities they have. She had thought about writing about herself, but she didn't know if that was such a good idea.

"Just write about yourself Aurora. No one in Rosewood is going to know that you are a creature of the night just because of an essay."

She coursed her eyes to Grace, thinking about what she said. Aurora hadn't told Grace about the incident with the other vampire. It had been a couple months now, and Aurora hadn't seen the strange man since then.

She didn't even tell Alec. Aurora was too afraid that he'd shield her inside, even though it might be best for her, but she couldn't live like that until he was captured.

Aurora pushed the paper out in front of her and placed the pencil on the table. She watched as it rolled away from her and rested on her paper.

"Aurora, what do you think of Zachariah?"

Aurora looked at Grace with a confused expression. Why would she even ask about him?

Aurora snapped her expression to a normal look. How was she supposed to answer a question like that?

Suddenly, the doorbell rung. Aurora shot up and said, "I'll get it." She started toward the door, happy that she avoided the question.

She opened the door to see Lucas and his little sister Katie. He was carrying her in his arms as snow fell around them.

"Aurora!" Katie exclaimed as Lucas put her down and she ran to Aurora. Her arms collapsed over Aurora's waist.

Aurora laughed and hugged Katie back. Katie was like the sister Aurora wished she had. She was a beautiful young child with brown curls that laced around her shoulders. Her deep green eyes fell into Aurora's gaze as she brushed back Katie's hair.

"Katie wanted to go to the park to play in the snow. She said one of her friends might be there as well, so if that's the case, I would like for someone to be there other than the other parent. I'm not huge on the 'awkward stare.'"

Aurora softly laughed as she pushed herself back up into Lucas's view. "Of course I'll go," she answered, looking back at Grace. "But I will have to see if Grace would want to tag along or what. I couldn't just abandon her here by herself."

As if hearing her, Grace appeared behind her and said, "I have to get going anyways. My mom needs me. I'll see you later Aurora."

Grace made her way past all three of them, giving Lucas and Katie a pleasant smile. Aurora watched as she made her way down the path and turned to go toward her house. The snow fell gently around her bundled body, some parts sticking to her hair.

Aurora turned her attention back to Lucas and said, "You all are welcomed to come inside. I have to run upstairs and get dressed for this frigid day."

With those words, Katie ran inside past Aurora. She only giggled as she moved out of the way for Lucas to enter. He walked past her, snow falling from him to the floor. Aurora smiled softly. She was happy to see that her best friend and she was hanging out together. It had seemed so long since they have been able to actually sit down and talk, nevertheless actually going out and hanging out.
