Aurora walked along the sidewalk with the straps of her backpack gripped in her hands. Her thoughts were all over yesterday, and about the mysterious boy.

"Aurora, what's wrong? You are acting differently."

Aurora looked up to see Grace looking at her with sympathetic eyes.

"I just miss Alec, Gracie."

Aurora did not want to tell Grace about her experience even if they were best friends. Grace was already in danger of knowing that she was a vampire. She did not want to pull her into more drama.

Aurora went to her first class as soon as she made it to the school. Grace had gone off somewhere else in the school. She turned down the aisle and sat in the same desk as yesterday.

Aurora looked around the half-lit room. She was the only one in the room, giving her some relief. She laid her head down and took a deep breath.

Do not let it get to you. It was nothing. She kept telling herself mentally over and over, but it seemed to get more difficult every time she thought it.

Suddenly, she heard someone shuffling their feet along the ground. Aurora looked up and her heart dropped.

Before her eyes were the guy from yesterday. He looked lost, or even scared.

He glanced over at Aurora, who shot her head back down. She breathed slowly, trying to tell where he was going.

"This is Ms. Lyruns's class, correct?"

She had hoped that someone had come into the classroom and she just did not hear their footsteps, but once she peeked up, he was standing there in front of her.

She pulled her head up and nodded her head. She could not talk; it was as if someone had ripped her tongue out.

The boy sat down at a desk in front of hers and asked, "Do you mind if I sit here?"

Aurora then noted his accent. It seemed to melt her heart. The last time she had heard an accent like his was when Aurora witnessed her father's death.

"No, you can," she said, her voice being soft and gentle.

He softly smiled and took a seat in front of her. Aurora eased back into her seat and leaned back.

The boy turned and said, "I apologize for scaring you if I did. My name is Zachariah: Zachariah Lyruns."

She looked at him with innocent eyes. "Are you related to Ms. Lyruns?"

He nodded his head, looked toward the door, and then back at Aurora. "She actually is my mother. She just had a divorce."

"Oh..." Aurora replied, not really knowing what to say.

She bit her lip as her eyes wandered around the room. The air felt tight in her lungs.

"Do you live with her?" she found herself questioning out loud. He looked at her with easy eyes.

"I am so sorry, I did not mean to just say that aloud."

Zachariah laughed at her nervousness. "No, you are fine. To answer your question, yes I do live with her, but it is very complicated."

Aurora nodded her head, her face being lit up from embarrassment. Zachariah shook his head and only laughed. He turned around and looked ahead of him.

Aurora put her head down to hide her face. This is why you do not make friends she thought to herself.

Silence crossed the air, and the only noise she heard was her breathing. She found herself wondering about all the possibilities she could have said instead of what she had.
