Jacqueline sat beside me in the back of the truck. I sat on the cold hard metal, looking up at the stars. They were easy to see out here in the country. But I found it un-interesting, the sky seemed un-inviting tonight. Perhaps its because I was now contained to this world. This world full of misery and defeat.
If they really did kill Tony this time I had a plan. Unlike last time when it caught me off guard. I found I hadnt planned what I would do if things could somehow go right. How far away that possibility seemed, yet it was still a possibility.
I supposed I would go on living like this. Most likely seek employment from Fury. Or dare I say it, more likely Tony. Go back to running the company with him like he first proposed way in the beginning. Those were the only possibility's I could think of.
I sighed and Jacqueline looked over at me. She had a strange look her in her eyes. Was that...pity? I clenched my jaw and looked away. She patted my hand awkwardly.
"We'll be there soon," she strained, this clearly wasnt a side she was familiar with
I smiled at her and nodded my head. I slid down onto my back, feeling the road rumble beneath me. I closed my eyes and drifted into a troubled sleep. Full of strange flashes of dreams. I rarely had full ones anymore. Not since I had been taken from this world and made to do the bidding of Fate.
When I opened my eyes again it was daylight. The sun was rising from in front of me. I knocked my knuckles against the window and it opened in response. Max looked back at us.
"How much longer?" I yelled over the rush of the wind.
She turned and spoke to Billy who was still driving determinedly. His knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel and I could see the vein in the side of his ox like neck pulsing rapidly. He turned to her and spoke briefly.
"We just passed through Bakersfield, we got about another hour at this rate," She yelled back to me.
I nodded and shut the window for her. I sighed and turned around. Tapping my fingers with annoyance on the truck bed. The metal clunked responsively. I turned ot Jacqueline.
"So what can you do?" I asked
She looked around and shrugged
"I dont have a word for it," She sighed
"Oh?" I asked over the roar of the wind
"Yeah I dont know, I get... premonitions and stuff." She shrugged and looked away shyly.
I smiled at her and looked around at the passing landscape. Things were getting a little more populated at this point. But not by much.
"What can you do?" She asked
"What do you mean?" I asked turning back to her.
"Like makes you different from the other villains? What made you their leader?" She asked
I shrugged "Maybe it was my drive, my resources. But if you mean what I can do twilight zone wise then, lets call it pyromania."
She smiled and waved her hand as if for me to show her. I held a ball of fire in my hand and threw it at the ground passing beneath us.
"I can play with water, rock, and wind too but... I like fire the best."
She nodded and looked away.
"I suppose it has something to do with my personality, you know?" I shrugged "I have a temper."
She laughed and nodded her head. I smiled sheepishly and turned away. I started cleaning my weapons besides Jacqueline. She joined in after a little while. Its like painting something. You get really into it and its time consuming and almost like meditating. Highly enjoyable usually except for now. When I was getting antsier with every mile that passed under the tires.
