Ethan to the side------>
-------
I leaped away and gave him a horrified expression, slowly stepping back.
"Aww...wittle girl! You think your dreaming? No, no, it's real, you just fell into Ethan Myers's arms!" He grinned. "Yes, the Ethan Myers!"
Okay that just pissed me off. I glared at him angrily, pushing my hair out of my eyes.
He frowned.
" Umm...girlie...this is the part where you go all like, "I love you so much Ethan! Marry me!" And then I reject you." He said cockily, smirking.
I clenched my fist, gritting my teeth.
"Aww, sweetheart, you must be in shock," He threw his arm around my shoulders and squeezed.
I stiffened and moved his arm away.
"No really, it's real!" He said, starting to look anxious.
That jerk was waiting for me to react. But what did I do?
I just stared.
His friends snickered.
He approached me, dangerously close, and said softly, " I understand what you feel right now. It's mixed with shock, happiness, and glee, of course. I know. Don't worry."
He moved closer. His breath smelled like strawberries.
"I won't hurt you." I punched him in the chest and he totally looked like he wasn't expecting that. I smiled in victory but then scowled when he grabbed my waist seductively.
Pushing his touchy arms away, I growled under my breath and said softly, "Touch me one more time and I will cut your balls off."
"Aww..sweetie..." He reached for my shoulders.
"Get your freaking face away from me you- you-" I stuttered. "Weirdo!"
I suck at insults.
Ethan looked flabbergasted anyway.
"You just talked."
"Yeah, I did."
The room got really quiet. I felt hundreds of eyeballs looking at me.
"The girl just talked! Woah..." I heard someone say in amazement.
And just like that- I ran. I ran and ran and ran. Out of the building, onto the sidewalk, across the road- all the way until I got home.
Panting, I rang the doorbell, slouched over with my hands on my knees.
The door opened, and my mom covered her mouth. "Sweetie, are you okay?" She said with concern. The corners of her eyes crinkled.
I was struck with this weird...feeling..like- deja vu.
Ethan.
" Don't call me sweetie." I snapped. I felt guilty the second after I said it. Her face filled with hurt.
" Mom-"
"No, it's okay. I should be expecting this stuff. You're growing up, after all."
She walked away.
Sigh.
...
Daddy, please? Let's drive over to the end of the rainbow and see!"
Daddy chuckled and ruffled my hair. "Christy, let's go later, okay?"
I pouted. "Fiiiiine."
"What is it with your obsession with rainbows?"
I heard a familiar voice that I've hated since my first day of school. I woke up abruptly and realized I fell asleep on the bus. And worse, Ethan Myers was sitting beside me. Too close. I automatically moved myself away from him, until I was as far as possible. My cheek pressed against the cold window. Why is this jerk here?
He scooted closer.
"You didn't answer my question..." He said teasingly. Even closer. I could smell his breakfast.
Strawberries, I thought.
He pinched my cheeks and I flinched.
"What is your problem?" I said, my voice a little higher than usual.
He took my hand and made patterns on my arm, making it tickle. I flicked his fingers and frowned. "Keep your hands to yourself."
He looked up at me, bewildered.
He frowned, and his eyebrows furrowed together until it looked like a messed-up unibrow. I must admit, it was pretty funny. I laughed.
Ethan's eyes filled with anger, and plain confusion.
"Are you laughing at me?" He asked, as if laughing at him was committing a crime.
"Yep, I am. Got a problem?" I said and looked at him daringly as his stupidly good-looking face gazed at me in amazement. His mouth seriously was hanging open.
"You-you-"
"Yes, I talked."
Where am I getting all this courage? I've said more words than all the words I've said this whole year.
His mouth opened like he was about to say something but the bus made an ear-piercing noise and my hands went straight to my ears. I shut my eyes.
When I opened them, Ethan was staring at me with the funniest look on his face. I went back to closing my eyes because it was easier than looking at him.
Finally, the sound stopped and the bus stopped along with it. People were literally climbing out of the bus like their life depended on it. I cleverly waited in my seat and smiled, amused at a girl in front of me being trampled and stepped on over and over again.
For some weird reason, Ethan still stayed with me and didn't step onto the aisle. Suddenly, I felt his hand grasp on mine and I was pulled out of the bus and not even a single person touched me. It was like heaven. And of course, that was because Ethan, Ethan Myer's hands were in mine. For a second, I wanted to keep holding his hand.
What am I doing?
I roughly pulled my hand away from him and made a big scene by wiping it on my jeans like they were contaminated. I mean, they were. He shrugged and walked away. I was swallowed by the crowd of people, once again.
I didn't regret leaving Ethan for a second. Anything is better than that jerk.
