Chapter 8

210 20 7

Great. Just great.

First, I almost died in the heat.

Then, I agreed to let Ethan help me.

(And on top of that, I cried in his shirt like a baby, so there goes my dignity.)

Now? We're stuck in a bus.

That's right. The bus driver pretended we were invisible-and left us to swelter like roasting pigs in the burning heat.

That little- buttface!

Making matters worse, my phone died. Ethan decided to lend his phone to his girlfriend.

Yup. He has a girlfriend. She's been on vacation in some ridiculously expensive place in Hawaii, and she's coming back to school next week. The fact that he has a girlfriend makes me really mad.

Uh, no. It's not because I like him. It's because he had shamelessly flirted with me this whole, freaking time, behind her back!

Poor her.

Plus he didn't tell me until now. Like, what the heck? I thought I was at least someone he could confront about that.

And- this is weird- but I think I started to even consider him my friend, which is saying a lot.

I'm never talking to him again. That jerk.

"Hey, you okay? You look...sick." Ethan was watching me worriedly.

"I'm fine!" I snapped, irritated.

Sadly, I wasn't. The heat was really getting to me. I was literally drenched in my own sweat. Gross.

And...was it just me, or am I losing consciousness? Suddenly my sight became blurry.

"I-need-water-" I croaked and everything went black.

Ethan's  P.O.V.

Is she dead? That's the first thing that crossed my mind when Christina passed out.

Don't be stupid, I told myself.

I glanced at Christina nervously. She had fallen sideways and her head was on my lap. Locks of brown hair were on her closed eyes and her pink lips were slightly parted. She was scowling even in her sleep. I smiled, she looked so innocent and-

Cute.

Suddenly the realization of the situation hit me like a bucket of cold ice.

Oh god.

I picked up Christina and carried her bridal style out of the bus. I could feel her warm breath on my neck.

How awkward.

"I-need-water-" Christina's words replayed in my head.

I gently set her down on the lush, soft grass and wiped the hair from her face. After rummaging through my backpack and not finding my water bottle, panic settled over me. This leaves me no choice but to look through Christina's stuff.

I searched hurriedly through the contents of her backpack and I breathed a sigh of relief when I spotted a water bottle.

I then held Christina in a sitting position and carefully tipped the water into her mouth. After a few seconds, her eyes shot open.

She suddenly coughed and spluttered water all over me as I awkwardly patted her arm, not knowing what exactly to do.

"You're supposed to pat my back, idiot."

I gaped at her in surprise and tried not to look hurt. After all I did, she calls me an idiot?

"Just kidding." She smirked and stared at me with a weird expression.

"What?"

"Oh, nothing."

I stayed silent and scratched my arm.

"Ethan?" My heart leaped in surprise at the sound of my name.

"Hmm?"

"Thank you." She said genuinely, and smiled.

It was a real smile.

"Your welcome." I couldn't stop myself from smiling back at her.

Christina P.O.V.

 What an awkward moment.

I cleared my throat.

"So what are we going to do?"

"Um, I don't know. Let's just run away to the woods or something. We can like pretend we're in the Hunger Games."

"Seriously? At a time like this?"

Ethan wiggled his eyebrows.

"I can be Peeta, and you can be..."

"Cato...so I can kill you."

"Oh, you don't mean that. You don't want to kill me." He flexed his muscles.

"Fine. I'll be Thresh... so I can crush you to smithereens and run away." I smirked, satisfied.

"No, you won't be Thresh." Ethan said quietly.

He moved his face close to me, about a centimeter away from my face.

My stomach flipped.

"You'll be Katniss...so I can kiss you."  He whispered.

My eyes widened and I pushed him away with all the strength I had in my weak arms.

"Excuse me? Kiss you? I wouldn't kiss you to save my life."

For a second he looked somewhat offended but of course the arrogance took over.

"Psh..of course you would. I'm just too hot."

 "Riiight."

"Aw, shut up."

"Nope."

"Whatever, Christina."

"It's Chris, Jerk."

He stuck his tongue out like a 5-year-old and I couldn't help but giggle- he looked just too adorable.

Wait, did I just freaking think that?

Something must be wrong with me.

"Oh my god, seriously, what are we going to do?"

"I don't know."

"Huh. You're really annoying, you know that?"

"I know." He grinned.

I stood up, frustrated, and looked around frantically.

Anyone, just anyone!

I can't believe I'm seriously stranded in the middle of nowhere with my arch enemy-who was being particularly obnoxious at the moment.

How utterly cliche.

-------

I know, I know, super short, but I had no idea what else to write, and- and- don't blame me!

ANYWAYS, I was blown away by the number of reads I have so far, I mean it's not that much, but it's a lot for me, and I seriously think by next year I'll probably have over 2000 reads.

Like, seriously, I checked my reads last week and it was like 468 and then when I checked like 3 hours later it was 511.

And now it's 570.

THAT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

So yeah, thanks guys! :)

And I'm not sure whether or not to add a cast. Like, I would want you to imagine the characters however you want, but I'm not really sure.

Leave a comment telling me what you think.

Oh, and DON'T FORGET TO VOTE! *singsongy voice*
