Chapter 10: Change

Third Person

Two months later, Eren and Levi sat on a golden beach on a burning hot day. Chocolate ice cream ran down people's chins, the water crashing onto the shore's lips, rainbow umbrellas shading couples, stray garbage blowing every now and then. The seagulls cried loudly, as some swooped in for fish.

⠀⠀"College... I can't believe I decided to go to culinary school..." Levi muttered as he purchased lemon slushies from a vendor. His sunglasses stood out against his naturally pale skin, and his white muscle tank. His swim trunks were plain blue, and his hair wasn't any lighter.

⠀⠀"Fourth of July weekend, who knew how busy it would actually be." He saw Eren and his towels all the way across the beach, or so the sun made it seem. "You're shitting me, right?" It felt like thousands of metres to walk, when it wasn't even ten.

⠀⠀"What was the hold up?" Eren asked, thirstily slurping his slushy.

⠀⠀"First off, it's Satan's weather, second off, we're far from the vendors." Levi grumbled and sipped through his straw.

⠀⠀"Thank you!" Eren said childishly, leaving a sloppy kiss on Levi's cheek.

⠀⠀"No problem, babe." He tried to smile for Eren. For an odd reason, he felt more stressed, and even having up and down mood swings.

⠀⠀PMS? Levi thought. No, I don't have a uterus.

⠀⠀"What's the matter?" Eren frowned. Why was Levi always thinking?

⠀⠀"I'm just stressed out for school, that's all." Eren remembered several talks with Levi about how he should become a cook, and how it was a natural talent.

⠀⠀"Home's only 8 hours away, in case you ever feel lonely."

⠀⠀"We have Skype too, ya know." He furrowed his eyebrows and continued to slowly sip.

⠀⠀"Today was supposed to take your mind off everything. How is it on your mind?"

⠀⠀"Everything and anything is racing through my mind." He sighed angrily. Eren didn't really understand his anxiety.

⠀⠀"Name five things you can see."

⠀⠀"Water, sand, kids...." Levi looked to his left. "Seagulls, and ...." He looked to his right. "You." He breathed in and out slowly, attempting to calm himself. Whenever Levi felt stressed, tense, or anxious, Eren asked him some questions and Levi would have to take a breath in and out.

⠀⠀"Four things you can hear."

⠀⠀"Kids screaming, goodness, they need to shut it. A dog bark, the seagulls, and the waves."

⠀⠀"Three things you can smell."

⠀⠀"Body odor, dear Jesus save me. Hot dogs, and sun screen." His breathing started to regulate itself.

⠀⠀"Two things you can feel."

⠀⠀"The coldness of my cup, and the sand burning my feet."

⠀⠀"One thing you can taste."

⠀⠀"This slushy." His mind was distracted, which was good. He took off his shirt and asked Eren for the sunscreen.

⠀⠀"Ahh!" He said quietly, the cold feeling on his back feeling strange.
