Chapter 14: Concerning

-x-

Eren's POV

I was concerned for Levi, he hasn't texted or called me in a few weeks.

College is supposed to be fun and adventurous, I understand that. But what could be keeping him from calling his boyfriend?

Mikasa said he was probably under stress, so I shouldn't bother him. But, this Friday would be a good time for a surprise visit. Food, cool drinks, even a little present!

I knew Levi wasn't huge on surprises, but this Friday would be a low key visit.

My phone rang and I answered with anticipation it was Levi.

"Eren?" My mother's voice said.

"Yeah."

"Set the table for three tonight. There's someone I want you to meet." It's good that my mom is moving on, but really? It's barely been a year...

"Yeah, okay." I hung up with salt in my voice. I didn't want a new dad/mom! She shouldn't even be dating, she's 40!

Hopping down the stairs, I took out three plates and three sets of utensils, setting them nicely on the table. I tidied up the dining room - I didn't want my mom sad if it didn't go well.

Seeing my home phone, I had an idea. I dialed Mikasa and waited for her to answer.

"C'mon, pick up..." I paced the room, walking into my kitchen and starting the oven. Why was I such a good child, even though I felt salty towards this whole situation?

After hearing her voicemail, I dialed Levi, which went straight to voicemail.

"Hey Levi, how were your first weeks of college? I hope it wasn't too stressful." I wrapped an arm around myself, and did an awkward laugh. "Anyway, call me when you get this. Love ya."

Hanging up, I cringed a little. My voice sounded different, and I felt different. Was it loneliness?

The doorbell rang, and I opened it, seeing my mom and her date.

Oh, great.

Levi's POV

I sat in the driver's seat, looking back at my passengers. Izzy and Farlan were being the dorks they are, and I couldn't help but think about smiling. They're my only friends - so far - and they weren't too annoying.

We were driving back from a McDonald's run, using one of Farlan's friend's car. I'd never trust anyone with something as valuable as a car. They could ruin it easily, or run off with it. I could only trust one person with my car, and that's Eren.

Eren. Wow, I felt more then guilty for not texting or calling him. He must be worried, or angry. As soon as I had my phone, I'd call him.

"Levi, take a left!" Izzy called, sipping her soda.

"Campus is a right."

"Let's get lost. The three of us. It will be fun, I promise!"

"We need to deliver the food to everyone else." I said, taking a right.

"You're so boring." She whined, rolling her window down.

Was I boring? I never really put thought into it, but maybe I was a stick in the mud. Did I already age, and become eighty too soon?

I got out of the car with the food in my hands. Izzy and Farlan didn't even notice; they were laughing at something dumb.

Everyone crowded around the table, searching the bag for their food. I took the fry container with the most fries, and smirked.

"Someone asked for you while you were gone." One of the guys said. Nodding, I went to see who it was. I left the common room and went back to my dorm, where I saw nothing but blackness. The light in the hallway shone on only my feet.

My finger flipped on the switch, and I saw my room decorated with Halloween banners, and a weirdo jump out from the shadows, yelling surprise.

"What the hell, Hanji?" I glared at them, as they laughed and spun around the room.

(Hanji is agender bc the fandom always argues about this)

"Isn't it neat?"

"It's nearly October, so it's appropriate. But why did you have to break into my room?"

"You need more excitement in your life."

"I need less of you in my life." I sat on my bed, clicked my phone on, and scrolled through my notifications.

"You didn't get any for me?"

"I had no clue you'd be here. And even if I did, I wouldn't waste my money on you." Hanji looked mildly offended, but brushed it off.

"Halloween is going to be crazy this year! Looking at-"

"Please leave." I said, not looking up from my phone. I felt like a jerk, and I wanted to apologise, but a part of me wouldn't do it. Hearing a sigh, the door slammed, and something fell off the wall.

In my voicemail inbox, I saw Eren had called. Listening to his voice made me smile. He sounded kind of upset, and I was wondering if I did anything.

You're guilty. Farlan kissed you and you didn't tell him. You smoked a cigarette and became drunk.

If I never mention it, it won't be considered as hiding anything. Right?

I dialed his number, eating a fry guiltily. He picked up on the second ring.

"Levi?"

"Yeah." I could basically hear him smile when he said "You finally called."

"It's not like I have all of the time in the world. You know that." I said jokingly, and heard him laugh lightly.

"That sucks a lot though. Oh yeah, umm, I have a question." Anxiety rose in me. I stopped eating, and felt my palms and the back of my neck sweat. Dread filled me, and I prepared for the worst.

"Are you busy this weekend?" I let out a silent sigh of relief.

"No, I'm actually going to chill and finish homework." Eren was coming to visit me! A first visit in college! Don't I need to capture this memory?

"I'll come Saturday." His voice sounded cordial, and I smiled once again.

"See you then." I hung up, and ate a handful of fries. In all honesty, I needed to chill. He wasn't going to find out, no matter what.

And the only things that happened was smoking, alcohol, and a non even real kiss. That isn't cheating. It's college experience.

It couldn't get worse. I wouldn't let it. Everything was going to be okay.
