Chapter One: Coincidence

-x-

Erens POV

⠀⠀I was still scared about the whole ordeal, and attempted keeping an incognito for the rest of the day.

⠀⠀My house was filled with the aroma of homemade pastries, blended with sometimes cinnamon. It always had some kind of cordial atmosphere, making anyone feel fuzzy and friendly.

⠀⠀Entering my home, it started off with an hallway to the kitchen on the left, and an open living room on the right. The centre of the room had a wooden staircase, leading upstairs to the roomy second level. We had a small room where we'd watch television, movies, and/or Netflix. That was the middle part of the upper level. On either side, there was some categorized rooms.

⠀⠀The far left was my bedroom, with the far right being a colossal bathroom.

⠀⠀My parents surprisingly roomed in the basement, God knows what's down there.

⠀⠀I situated my bag at the foot of the staircase and slid off a light weight hoodie, tossing it adjacently by said backpack.

⠀⠀As I strolled in my kitchen, I could practically taste the blueberry scones my lovely mother prepared.

⠀⠀"Hi mom," I extended my hand sneakily towards the plate, with her whacking it.

⠀⠀"You know the rules, wash your hands first!" She had some sort of motherly clout that would put me under an obedient trance.

⠀⠀Our sink was metallic. Don't get me wrong, it looked exemplary, but my hands were rather nippy after doing so.

⠀⠀"Mom, how did you and dad meet?" We both were more then familiar with how the story played out, but she recited her memory.

⠀⠀"I was running from the cops - don't bother asking my action leading me to arrest - and my only escape would be in a vehicle. Your father is parked on the side nearest to me, checking his cellphone. He was my ticket out, and without thinking, I jumped onto his motorcycle and told him "What're ya waiting for? Step on it!"" I beamed as I took a scone from the porcelain plate, blooming with intricate designs on the rims of it.

⠀⠀"Did you feel all warm? That's what the health teacher - Mr. Whatchamacallit - said. How do you know you found your soulmate?"

⠀⠀"That's something you'll have to experiment with." I sighed, that's what she said every time I queried about her experience.

⠀⠀She pecked my forehead before reminding me to complete my homework.

⠀⠀"Yeah yeah, I understand mom." I shook my head whilst muttering my precious sentence, concealing the smile daring to break my stoic cover.

⠀⠀Sometimes I wondered if my smile was real.

⠀⠀My room, perfectly clean, organized, nifty, nerdy, fit my liking. Several band posters - such as My Chemical Romance, Black Veil Brides, Pierce the Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, etc. - were dangled everywhere. Also, Marvel superhero posters were grouped together on a wall.

⠀⠀My all time favorite superhero would be Tony Stark, aka Ironman. Not only is he prosperous, but freaking attractive.

⠀⠀I am gay. I'm not trying to conceal my sexuality, but embracing it. My soulmate must be a guy, because a uterus isn't my thing.

⠀⠀I shivered at the thought of intercourse with a female, I wouldn't be good at it. I can be so naïve when it comes to futuristic thoughts.

⠀⠀My job was at Barnes and Noble, gratefully there was a conveniently located down town.

⠀⠀No, I didn't have a car. My exact reason I work, and it'd be amiable to have one.

⠀⠀Another curiosity popped into my head: did my soulmate have a car? Mentally, I face palmed. I could be such a nerd at times.

Levi's POV

⠀⠀"Hey, Petra? Are we still on for tonight?"

⠀⠀"Of course! I just need to stop by the bookstore. It's for book club." I could practically hear her smile through the phone.

⠀⠀I loved Petra, don't get me wrong, but her amicable side annoyed the living hell out of me. After a while, getting everything my way - not even a compromise with her! - got boring. I wanted a woman that would fight back, make me angry, make me feel. Getting everything you could possibly desire sounds like a dream, when really it's tedious.

⠀⠀"Sure, what time should I come and get you?"

⠀⠀"Could you pick me up at Barnes and Noble? I mean, it's fine if you ca-"

⠀⠀"I can drive you."

⠀⠀"Levi, you don't have to, unless you want to. Whatever you want!" See this? Whatever you want. The three most annoyingly repeated words from this woman!

⠀⠀"I'll swing by in fifteen."

I arrived at her petite but inviting house. The doorbell was a chime of bells. A sound that made my insides all tingly, like drinking hot cocoa and feeling the remnants of the liquid settling in your stomach.

⠀⠀"Welcome back Levi, Petra's getting ready. She'll be down soon." Her mother sweetly smiled at me. Usually, Petra's father would be working at this time.

⠀⠀Petra cheerfully came into view, blushing at the sight of me.

⠀⠀"Hi Levi!" She kissed my cheek. She dressed fancily for a trip to the bookstore. Cue internal eye roll.

⠀⠀"Hi. Shall we get going?" I didn't have any attitude in my voice, I never felt like doing so.

⠀⠀Her nod cued me to wave a friendly goodbye before leaving with her.

⠀⠀"You look nice tonight." I said as I started the engine in my car.

⠀⠀"Is it too much?"

⠀⠀"Of course it's not." I lied. She exhaled and smiled.

⠀⠀"You don't have to be so tense in front of my mom, you know. She loves you!"

⠀⠀"Who said I had emotion?"

At last, we arrived at Barnes and Nobles. I loved it there, with the small cafe and the smell of new books blended with cinnamon.

⠀⠀"You can stay in the c-"

⠀⠀"Petra, I'm coming in with you." She smiled and nodded at my response.

⠀⠀We walked in as a wave of heat embraced us, as long with the scent of the cinnamon and new books.

⠀⠀I took a peek at the anime section as Petra got her "academic needs"-do you call book club academic?

⠀⠀Anyway, we were waiting in line. The line stretched back to the end of the fancy ropes they put out.

⠀⠀Our cashier was that Jeff kid from earlier today. It felt as if it was a coincidence. We looked into each other's eyes for a millisecond before he looked at Petra, saying the catchphrase every cashier was taught monotonously.

⠀⠀"I did find everything well today!" I slid a hundred dollar bill on the counter, avoiding any sort of contact with him. I was afraid that it would happen again, the tingly feeling, the warm feeling spreading throughout me.

⠀⠀His hand touched mine as he took the bill, preparing the change. Electricity shot through my veins in my arm, and I let out a breathy something. My mouth hung open as he looked at me, obviously he felt it, too.

⠀⠀It got me wondering, is this man my soulmate?
