A/N hey everyone. So here's chapter 14. Sorry it took a little while but I've been so incredible busy that life has gotten in the way.
So I'm very sorry to announce that for the next month I may not be able to update. I have three 2000 word uni essay due within a week of one another, so I'm going to be incredibly busy with that, work, sport and other studies. I will try to update at least once maybe twice but I make no promises as my uni stuff comes first.
Anyways hope you all like this chapter :)Chapter 14
It didn't take long for Daryl to stop crying but it took a while before he moved at all. I kept on watch, and made sure we were safe.
"Daryl," I spoke softly, "We gotta go back."
Daryl then finally moved for the first time in a solid hour or so. He stood up and looked down at Merle's mutilated corpse. I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist, he placed his hands on mine and we stood there for a moment before he spun around.
"Let's leave," he suggested.
"Alright let's go," I went to turn around but he grabbed my wrist.
"I didn't mean go back to the prison," he said.
I turned to face him, "Dare, what are you talking about?"
"Let's leave, you and I. We just go, get away from everyone."
"That's our family, I ain't leaving them, not now not ever. They need us."
"Yeah to be henchman."
"Daryl don't say that, you know that ain't true. They look to you to help make the right decisions, to bring food and for protection. That group is like family."
"No you're my family, I need to protect you. I turned my back on 'im and now look, I ain't losing you too."
"Dare you ain't gonna lose me, I'm not going anywhere."
He didn't say anything, he just ran his hand through his hair.
"Come on let's head home," I held out my hand for him to take it so we could leave, he hesitated but he took it and we headed back to the prison.
It was a long and quiet journey but we eventually made it back and Carl was ready to help us through and open the gate to let us in. Rick then told us to pack our things. We were leaving. It didn't take Daryl and I long to pack our things either, I never unpacked and he doesn't own a lot so we had our stuff ready to go real quick.
"Carl," Rick tried to take the duffel bag Carl was carrying but he pushed Rick away and walked to the back of the Hyundai and loaded it in. I was standing by the bike with Daryl when Rick prepped one of the other vehicles we had found.
"I've never seen him this mad," Glenn spoke as he joined Rick, "Even with Lori. He just shut down."
"He's still a kid. It's easy to forget," Rick replied, Rick left and then it was just Daryl and I. Daryl hadn't said a word to me since the whole Merle thing. I was worried but I didn't want to push him, I just stayed close and helped him clean his arrows.
"You know, Merle never did nothing like that his whole life," Daryl finally spoke.
"He gave us a chance," I replied, "Gave us another day."
Daryl look back at me and I stood up, offering him a hand. He hesitated but took it, and I pulled him up, he didn't let go of my hand though.
"He cared about you," I spoke, "In his own way."
Daryl nodded, grabbed his things to pack away and get ready to move.
"Alright everyone, let's get ready," Rick spoke as he exited the prison.
