Chapter 16

We kept running for god knows how long, we had to be sure we lost the walkers before we stopped, and even then I wouldn't stop, I couldn't. Daryl told me to find something to fight for, well I found it and I'm gonna fight like hell, I won't stop till I stop.

"Char, we need a break," Bob spoke.

"Don't call me that," I stopped, "Its Charlie."

"Why don't we stop here for the night?" Michonne spoke.

"We can't stop," I turned to face everyone, "I won't."

"Charlie, we're all exhausted, we need to rest," Michonne walked over to me, "Daryl will be fine, we'll head out first light and be back by night, but we need rest, you need rest."

I know she was right but I couldn't stop. I won't, I needed to keep going.

"Listen, you said you'd be out here with me if we knew where he was," Michonne started, "And I promise to stay out here with you and I promise to get you back as soon as I can tomorrow but we need to rest, you need to rest. Daryl will be pissed if you don't come back alive."

I couldn't help but laugh a little, she was right, we needed to rest.

I nodded, "But we leave at first light."

"First light," she agreed and we made a fire and rested for the night in the clearing, not that any of us slept at all, too freaked out I guess.

Soon it was light again and I got packed to go, didn't need to tell the others to do the same either, I don't think any of us wanted to lose any more people. I took a good look around while everyone washed up and cleaned up.

"This is Turner Creek, so Barnesville must be a few miles downstream," Michonne explained.

"Sounds like our best chance at finding a new ride," Bob replied.

"Yo, Ty," I yelled out across the creek, "Come on, let's go."

"Ty," Bob yelled, "Ty! There should be a town a few miles south."

"Lost a whole night," Ty replied, "My sister, everybody else-- they're probably dead."

"Well, it helps to keep moving," Bob replied.

"No, it doesn't."

Daryl's POV

This sucked! Big time! I felt so useless, I should be out there. Can't believe she left, so help me if she doesn't come back in one piece. This was my fault, I should have done more to stop her but since this was death row the lock was on the outside of the door, meaning you can't open it from this side and seeing as I had no key I couldn't get out.

"You couldn't have stopped her," I looked up to see Herschel walking in, "She's determined."

"Mhmm," I grumbled, followed by coughing. I couldn't stop as I felt my whole body shake, every one of my bones felt like glass every time I coughed.

"Here, drink," Herschel handed me a cup, I took a sip, I don't know what this was but it tasted like ass, "I know you're angry at her for leaving but it was her decision."

"She's an idiot, she shouldn't have left," I grumbled, "She should have listened."

"When are you going to learn she'll never listen, especially when it comes to you," Herschel replied, "She loves you, so much so that she couldn't stand by and watch you die."

"And if she doesn't come back," I started.

"You should have more faith in your wife," Herschel smiled, "She's a fighter, especially when it comes to you. You've trained her well, taught her how to survive and that's what she'll do until she gets back."
