Chapter 5

Turning over on her side Jocelyn let out a groan feeling the sunshine in tracks across her face. Shoving her face deeper in her pillow she mentally counted the days. One week. She’d been locked up in this god-forsaken place for one week. At first people came knocking upon her door all the time telling her to come out, that they were sorry. The thing about people though is that they tend to give up eventually if they have no results. Like predicted after endless nights and days of no response from their captive the voices died. That is all except one, which was calling from the other side of the beige door.

"Jocelyn.... it's me... I have breakfast." Silence as Jocelyn listened to the girl on the other side. She sounded hopeful, sad almost, and Jocelyn felt her cheat ache. You and me both.

"Okay... Well I'll just leave it here. Come see us if you want company." The sound of a tray being placed on the floor, retreating footsteps and then the continuing silence as though  the girl had never even been there. Sitting up Jocelyn ran a hand through her hair looking at the clock that perched on her beside table.

9:00. Might as well get up. Swinging her legs over the side of her bed they came into contact with he cool hardwood. As always she briefly curled her toes at as they cold reached up her legs. Pushing open the door to her petite bathroom she slid off her clothes hopping into the shower.

Two hours later she was bored out of her mind as she stood on her head at the foot of her bed, assisting her in balance. She was trying to find peace yet the only effect was feeling the sickening pulse of blood as it rushed to her head. Rolling out of the position she sat on her knees surveying the room before her. For a prison it wasn't that bad. Sure, the queen bed took up a fair amount of space, perhaps the bathroom was kind of small but it wasn't cold, and it wasn't wet. A soft buzzing filled the room and Jocelyn jumped up snatching for her cell that lay abandoned on the bed.

You expect me to believe they let you graduate early?!- Li

Jocelyn sighed, so maybe it hadn’t been the best lie, but she had always sucked at that. Besides she didn't know what was worse that Liana was probably pissed at her because she didn't believe it, or that her parents didn't even seem to realize it was a lie.

It’s kind of a weird situation. - Joce

Right. I bet you’re just ditching with some boy.- Li in frustration Jocelyn flung the cell back onto the bed and made her way over to the door flinging it open. Hang with some dude when clearly she wasn’t over the dick that gave up on her? She needed to do something, anything. Glancing quickly once left and right she slipped her way barefoot into the hall. Making sure not to step on her empty tray she took a sharp turn right and started to wonder. The hall ceilings were high, cathedral like, the walls covered with paintings. As her eyes scanned over them she couldn't help squinting a little, as if there was something off about them. Tearing her gaze away she caught site of a door at the end of the hall and she sprinted towards it heart pounding and wrenched it open. Before her lay the outside world, stretching on in healthy green grass. Sun shone on her face and the heat washed over her making her lips tilt upward in a slight smile. She could go. Quietly closing the door behind her she started to make her way onto he grounds. Feet being comforted by the soft grass she tried finding the way out, except the grass seemed to stretch on forever in all directions. That however was when she spotted them. All lined up as or they were made for her. Dune buggies. Big ones, four-wheel drive, powerful and menacing looking, silver handles glinting in the light. Without second thought she started toward the bright orange one her hand gracing over the seat. Beautiful. Biting her lip she put on the helmet and jumped up straddling the seat her hands firm on the handles. So maybe she’d never actually rode one of these things, but what the hell. You only lived once.

"You've got this J," she whispered to herself and then she pressed on the gas pedal the vehicle surging forward at full speed. Her hair was whipping out behind her as she bumped and soared over the small dunes and hills. Flinging her head back she let out a whooping laugh feeling the high she had craved so long, as though it was the essential missing from her life. She could see the whole grounds in no time on this thing, she could leave in no time. At the thought her heart soared higher then ever. Turning the car around the left corner of the massive stonewall Jocelyn felt her heart plummet, for she was heading straight for a massive pool. Clear aquamarine water stared back at her, wickedly taunting. Turning her wheel with such a force she just managed to skim the cement at the edge of the pool causing the guys and girls in it to stare in shock. She had just managed to almost get out of the main area by the pool when suddenly a large figure burst into her left peripheral vision and she was knocked forcefully off her bike. Landing on the ground with a thud the pair rolled on the ground until finally they stopped. Breathing hard she squinted her eyes shut as she tried not to dwell on the head splitting pain seething all over her every limb. The person rolled off her and roughly pulled her to her feet.

"Take off the helmet," they said through gritted teeth and Jocelyn felt her heart skip a beat. She knew that voice. Glancing towards the pool she saw that a slim brunette was getting out confusion on her face as well as a couple others. Slowly she lifted her hands to her head and pulled off her helmet her blonde hair falling before her. Raising her eyes she saw the boy from the lockdown standing before her. His black hair sat sexily messy upon his head, yet his gently blue eyes were as sharp as pins as they stared at her.

"Seth! That was totally uncalled for!" The boy’s eyes snapped to the girl and that was all Jocelyn needed before she took off sprinting away. She had a minute, maybe less before they caught her. Arms pumping hard at her sides she promised God she would run every day for the rest of her life if she helped her get away. Yet then the hand had grasped her arm halting her to a sudden stop. She struggled against the guys grip feeling it tighten even so. Bringing her closer to him her grabbed hold of her other arm.

"Stop," the guy snapped his voice harsh. "I don't want to hurt you!"

"Then why can't I go home?" she demanded feeling her eyes narrow into slits. The guy was just about to answer when a new voice appeared.

"Let her go Seth."

"But-"

"I said let her go." Hesitantly Jocelyn felt the guys grip release and she took a step away from him still glaring.

"We do not tolerate stunts like the one you just pulled miss Kage." Jocelyn stayed quiet as she watched the other teens make their way across the grounds towards them. "Please believe me when I say I am deeply saddened that you feel we force you presence."

"Right."

"We would be willing to make your accommodations more adequate-"

"I don't need more adequate accommodations," Jocelyn snapped. "I need to go home." Everyone else had reached them by now and they were all staring at Jocelyn. Shifting uncomfortably under their gaze she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, fingering the small heart locket that sat just below her collarbone. Looking up she caught Seth staring and he glared at her before looking away.

"I'm sorry you feel that way." But Jocelyn had already turned on her heel and stormed back to the mansion blinking back hot tears.
