Forced Lies

Chapter 5

Maddie's POV:

"Wait, what?" I ask, looking between Avis and the gun in her hand. She sighed.

"I said you have to become an agent or I am going to be forced to kill you." She said, jiggling the gun in her hands. My eyes widened and I backed slowly to Sam, grabbing onto his hand.

"But... But why?" I asked, confused as to why our friend was doing this to us.

"Well you found us out, therefore you need to join us or we must eliminate you. If you don't join us, we must kill you because you are/could be a potential threat to us. It is that simple." I was struck by how calm she sounded. Her voice sounded cold. Like ice. Like she would not care if we died. Like we were just another obsticals, standing in her way. I let out a small wimper and Samuel squeezed my hand.

"Why can't you just let us go? We won't tell anyone anything. Nothing will come out of our mouths about this." He said, looking Avis in the eyes. she just shook her head.

"Did you not understand what I just said? You either join us or are killed, because, if not, you could rely information about our whereabouts to the enemy and we can't let that happen. So, either you are joining, or it is goodbye. You have one minute." She said, staring at us calmly. I began shaking. Sam leaned over and whispered in my ear.

"Let's not promise anything. Just let her take us to wherever she wants us to."

"Then what?" I whispered back.

"I don't know, but I'll figure out something." He said, standing up straight. "We have agreed to go with you to wherever you need, but we won't promise anything yet." He said to Avis. She cocked her head to one side and nodded, putting her gun in the holster on her belt.

Walking around, she grabs our hands and pushes us to a black van that was parked around the corner. Shoving us in the back, she climbs into the passenger seat and nods to this very burly man who starts the car and continues driving. Avis turns to us with an emotionless face.

"Don't try anything or you will be dead before you can beg for mercy." I nod quickly, grabbing onto Sam. He pulls me close, whispering soothing words in my ear. After a bit, my breathing slows down, but I am still hypervenalating in my mind. What if I die? I can't die. Not now. Things are finally starting to work out and of coarse my life and someone I care about's life just has to be out in danger.

We we drive for what seems like hours but in reality was only a few minutes when we pull up to a big building. It was made out of grey stone and seemed very military like with guards at the door and watch towers. I whimpered and Sam grabbed my hand. Avis climbed out of the car and, opening the back, pulled out out and onto the front walkway. She marched us in front of her towards the front door. When we reached the door, I gasped. There stood Aspen and Daniel talking to one of the guards.  They turned around and their eyes grew wide when they saw us.

"Oh hi guys." Said Daniel, scratching the back of his neck. "Um... What are you doing here?"

"I might ask you the same question." Said Sam, glaring at them. Aspen bit her lip, looking at the ground.

"Well... Uh..." She said, stumbling over her words. Sam growled at her, starting to make a move towards aspen, butAvis quickly grabbed his arms and held them behind his back. I just looked at aspen, my eyes filled with pain. How could they do this to us?

Aspen's POV:

i watch as Avis holds Sam back and Maddie just stands there, not saying anything. But I can tell she is screaming inside. She is hurt. Because of me. I can see it in her eyes. What have I done.... I hurt my first and only friends.... We'll probably not my friends anymore. Not after what I did to them. They will probably be dead by morning because of me...

Maddie's POV:

i cant stand this. I thought they liked us. Cared about us. I guess I was wrong. I sat down on the floor and brought my knees up to my chest, trying to keep from crying. But no matter how Jared I tried, a tear slipped from my eye. And, unfortunately, Samuel saw.

"Look what you did!" He said, nodding his head towards me since Avis still held his hands. "You made Maddie cry! How could you!?!? I thought we were friends." He growled, his face turning red. Aspen crumbled, slumping onto the floor, weeping. Daniel just stood there.

"Oh shit..." I heard him mumble under his breath. I looked up at Sam who was already looking at me. He nodded his head ever so sligltly and shifted his feet very slyly. Before I had time to react or respond, he had acted.

Everything moved to fast. I watched as Sam flipped Avis over his shoulder, slamming her to the ground. The rest was a blur. I felt a strong hand grab mine and pull me up from the floor. I let this person who I found out later to be Samuel pull me away from a sobbing Aspen, a dumb struck Daniel and a stunned Avis. I ran. He pulled me along, his hand in mine the only thing keeping me going.

I tripped led and stumbled as I ran. I heard Avis taking fast int a walker talkie. "Code 436. Red alert. They are running away. I repeat they are running away. I started hearing footsteps coming after us. They began growing louder. I ran as fast as I could, hoping me and Sam could make it out alive. That is when I heard the gun shot and felt a really sharp shooting pain in my arm......
