I'm called up first to pick a name out of the hat. I know whoever I'm going against is going to be on the team for sure. I haven't been brave enough to tell anyone that I was leaving, so I've just pretended that everything is okay. I know it's selfish, but whoever I'm going to go against is going to benefit. I'm hoping I pick out someone from The Next Step's name.
As I reach into the hat, I can feel all the slips against my hands, I'm praying I don't choose an Elite member's name.
As I open up the paper, inwardly I'm happy, even though Eldon could have beaten anyone he went up against, this way he's completely guaranteed a spot.
I pretend to be hurt on the outside, I know Eldon's going to be upset about this, but I know he'll understand when I explain everything to him.
"... Eldon."
The room is dead silent for a minute, Eldon is staring blankly at the floor.
"You two have thirty minutes to prepare, okay?" Miss Kate says.
We head out of the room, I grab Eldon's hand as soon as we're close.
"I can't believe this." Eldon says.
We head into Studio B, I shut the door behind us.
"Listen, I've had a good run here at The Next Step, don't worry about it. Have fun and win at Internationals for me."
Eldon looks away momentarily,
"I can't do this. I can't take this spot away from you."
I know I have to break it to him now,
"You won't be taking anything away from me... I'm moving back to Madison anyways..."
Eldon's face goes blank briefly,
"Wait what?"
"I'm sorry but, I have to move..."
Eldon is speechless for several seconds, "No..." he asks, "When?"
I sigh, "In two days."
Eldon looks past me, stunned.
"Why didn't you tell me this sooner?"
His eyes meet mine, "I only have two days left with you..."
I frown, "I'm sorry, I just didn't want you to spend time worrying about it."
Eldon pulls me into a tight hug,
"We're going to make these two days count okay?" Eldon says,
"But what about after the two days? What's going to happen to us? I'm away for a whole year."
Not breaking the hug, "We can make this work. I mean I can fly there and you can fly here every other month. We'll rotate, I promise we can make this work. I'm not losing you over distance okay?"
"Okay."
We break apart and head back to the studio, Eldon dances, I dance, but we both know what the outcome is going to be. The dancers all vote for Eldon, and as Eldon chooses the next name, I head out, waiting for him to follow.

"I mean we can video chat, that's our best option. It's like we're in the same room... sort of." I say walking up the front steps into my house.
"But I don't get to kiss you every day, I don't get to hold your hand, hug you, all that stuff every day. I'm gonna miss it so much." Hunter says, shutting the front door behind us as we walk inside.
"I know, this is gonna be hard." I say,
We curl up on my couch and our eyes are on the fireplace, watching the flames dance.
"I'm really going to miss you, I love you so much." Hunter says, placing his head on my chest.
"I love you too."
I run my fingers through his hair gently, I start to cry,
I finally get a boyfriend who I love more than anything, and he has to leave. Hunter looks up at me, his eyes are watery as well.
We sit in silence, curled up against each other. I know once he leaves, we won't get to do this for a long time.
Long distance is gonna suck, but it will all be worth it in the end, I hope.
