Nine ➵ Kiss

I wake up in the morning feeling simultaneously happy and upset. I feel happy because of Joshua and of course, sad because of Vernon.

Late last night, we decided to spend the night at a motel in the middle of nowhere.

Dino booked a room for just me and him because he said he didn't want me sharing with any of the boys.

I sit up and yawn, checking my phone on the bed side table. I have two messages from my mum, saying she's missed me and a missed call from Joshua.

I glance at Dino, realising he's still peacefully sleeping on the bed in the opposite corner of the small room, and I then get out of bed and put on some shoes. I check one last time that he's definitely asleep before quietly leaving the room.

I remember Joshua's room number and when I reach the door, I gently knock on it and wait. After only a few seconds, it opens and Joshua steps outside, smiling.

"Good morning," He whispers and shuts the door behind him. "Everyone else is still asleep."

"I know. It's six o'clock." I laugh quietly.

"Let's go outside?" He asks and I nod.

"Alright."

I'm still attired in my pyjamas, so I'm thankful when there's nobody visible in the outside area. There's a long, empty road and a wooden bench and that's all what's in sight.

Joshua sits on the bench and I sit next to him. We're now facing the city as we're on a hill and the sun is longing to rise.

"How are you feeling today?" He asks and places his hand on top of mine.

"Still a little sad." I admit and look down at the floor.

"Can I make you feel better?" He asks and I shyly look at him, nodding.

He unexpectedly leans forward and presses his lips against mine.

I react by kissing him back nervously, my heart fluttering and my stomach turning violently. My first kiss, taken my Joshua.

He slowly pulls away, smiling.

"Better?"

I nod. "Much better."

Joshua is nineteen and I'm sixteen, is he even allowed to kiss me?

"Look at the sunrise." He says and I look at the sky.

"It's beautiful." I whisper and gaze at the lilac, light red and pink sky.

"Like you."

"Stop, you're making me blush.".

"You look cute when you blush, star." He laughs and pinches my cheeks.

"Good morning!" I hear Hoshi shout and Joshua and I turn around.

He's also still dressed in his pyjamas. He jogs towards us, smiling brightly but looking tired.

"Good morning." Joshua and I say and Hoshi sits next to us on the bench.

It's silent for a few moments before Hoshi speaks up.

"Are you guys really going to pretend that you didn't just kiss?" He laughs and I snap my head to look at him.

"What?" Josua and I say simultaneously.

"I saw you," He says calmly. "I'm not going to tell Dino, don't worry. I actually like you Joshua, I don't want to see you dead."

"If anyone else finds out, Hoshi, I swear to-" Joshua starts but he's interrupted.

"I said don't worry. I always knew that you two would end up together, anyway."

"You did?" I ask.

"Yeah, of course. You both look at each other like my parents do."

I blush. "Really?"

"Yeah, really. Anyway, I'm going to get changed now because we're leaving in a few hours, you coming?"

"Sure." Joshua nods.

As we follow Hoshi, Joshua reaches for my hand and holds it loosely. I squeeze his hand, smiling.

When we see Woozi in the corridor, we quickly release our hands so he doesn't see. I say goodbye to Joshua and return to my room, seeing Dino is now awake and changed.

"Hey, Areum. How are you?" He asks.

"I'm good, thanks." I feel bad for not telling him about Joshua and I but I know he'd murder us if he found out.

"We're going paint-balling today." He grins.

"I thought we were going shopping today!" I say in a whining tone but laugh.

"No, that's too girly. There's twelve boys and one girl, we win."

"Fine." I huff, smiling.

I pull a pair of old leggings and a baggy shirt from my bag and change in the bathroom. I don't put on much makeup, knowing most of it is going to run off anyway during paint-balling.

"Dino, can I wear one of your hoodies?" I ask from the bathroom. "I don't want to get mine dirty."

"Sorry but neither do I. Go and ask Wonwoo, he packed a few spares."

"Alright." I respond and walk out of the bathroom.

I head to Wonwoo's room and knock on the door. I hear a 'come in' and so I do, and I immediately see Hoshi and Wonwoo sitting on a bed laughing and snickering.

"What's happened?" I ask, smiling confusedly.

"You and Joshua?" Wonwoo questions before bursting out in laughter. I glare at Hoshi and he avoids eye contact. "Really?"

"Yes, now stop laughing and don't tell anyone. Could I please borrow a hoodie? Dino says you have spare."

"Yeah, sure," he says, still laughing lightly before reaching for his suitcase. "Here."

"Thanks." I say and pull the oversized, maroon coloured hoodie over my head.

"Areum, seriously though, don't you think Joshua is a little too old for you?" Wonwoo says quietly and I shake my head.

"Age is just a number, isn't it?" I ask rhetorically before turning and heading towards the door. "Goodbye. Oh, and Hoshi, if you tell anyone else, I will snap all of your eyeliner pencils."

Oh my goodness, the Jareum ship has sailed! The kiss was so cute, I was fangirling when writing it.
