Thirty ➵ Encounter

Joshua dropped me off home the next morning, and I was immediately bombarded with questions from Dino. I told him we went to a lake, but I missed out the details of swimming in it in just my underwear.

"I'm meeting up with a girl today." Dino informs me and I widen my eyes in surprise.

"You are?" I ask and he nods.

"I'm happy for you." I tell him honestly.

The last time Dino had a girlfriend was a little over a year ago. But their relationship didn't last after she didn't like how much time he spent at the studios practicing. He was absolutely devastated and for a long time after the break, he didn't even talk to a girl unless he needed to. It took him a while to get over her.

"Thanks, sis."

"I'm going to go to the grocery store," I tell him. "Do you want anything?"

He shakes his head. "No, thanks."

I pull on a coat and head out of the door, immediately feeling the cold air around me. I shortly reach the store and quickly head to the food aisle.

As I'm leaning down to reach my favourite chocolate, I spot a familiar figure and I feel anger boiling in my stomach. Kim Eui.

She spots me first and struts over to me, a false smile plastered across her makeup-painted face.

"Hey, Areum," she grins falsely. "Long time no see."

"I don't want to talk to you." I sigh and continue adding food into my basket.

"How is Vernon? I haven't seen him since the accident. How is his arm?"

"Don't talk to me about him." I sigh.

"I'm just asking. The accident was so tragic."

I turn to her and glare into her eyes. "I know that you had something to do with the accident. So unless you want me to go to the police station and file a report, I suggest you leave me alone."

"What do you mean? I didn't have anything to do with it." She responds, acting clueless.

"I'm not stupid, Eui. Did you really expect me to believe that you were at home when an unknown driver hit him and mysteriously sped off?"

"You're delusional." She tuts and picks at her nails, uninterested.

"And you're a bitch." I respond and she glares at me once again through cold eyes.

I see a few people around us send uneasy glances but I shrug them off. Visions of Vernon in the hospital rush back and I grow increasingly angry with her.

"How's Jun?" She asks and I snap my head to face her.

"Go away." I sigh and walk away, dropping my basket on the floor and walking out of the store.
