Forty ➵ Revelations

A ray of light seeping into the room through the small gap in the curtains is what wakes me. I tiredly turn onto my side, seeing Joshua asleep beside me and all at once, memories of last night flash back and I blush, sitting up and beginning to put my clothes from the floor back on.

I hear voices from the corridor and my eyes widen. I quickly pull on my jeans just in time for the door to open, and for Wonwoo to step inside.

"Areum?" He says confusedly. "Why are you here?"

"Um, I spent the night," I mumble nervously, technically not lying to him.

"Oh, right," He mumbles before glancing to the floor where the pile of Joshua's clothes are located, before, like a switch inside of his head, everything clicks into place and his eyes grow wide. "Oh my god-"

"Wonwoo," I beg in a hushed tone and walk towards him. "Please don't tell Dino."

He shakes his head. "I won't."

"Thanks," I breathe, suddenly embarrassed as silence fills the air.

"Ew," He suddenly chuckles and scrunches up his nose.

I hear Joshua stir from behind us and I'm quick to push Wonwoo out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

"Morning," Joshua mumbles, sitting up with a tired smile on his face.

I turn around. "Morning, do you want any breakfast?" I try to remain normal. 

He shakes his head and groggily stands up, attired only in his underwear and walks towards me, wrapping his arms around my waist and looking into my eyes lovingly with a glint of amusement.

"You don't need to be so embarrassed of last night, it's a normal thing to do." He says and I shake my head.

"No, it's not that..."

"What is it, then?" He asks, confused.

"Wonwoo knows," I burst out and Joshua almost chokes on air.

"What?" He asks with panic stricken eyes.

"Yeah, he came into your room before and kind of put the pieces together."

"Oh god, if Dino finds out, we're screwed." He mumbles and I nod, agreeing.

"But he won't, only us and Wonwoo know, and I've already warned him."

"Yeah, I don't think that he'll say anything." Joshua nods and begins to put on some clothes from his wardrobe.

After changing, we walk out of his room and into the living room where the boys (who live in the apartment) are sat, all looking disgusted but laughing. Immediately, I know Wonwoo didn't keep the secret to himself. 

"You two did it inside our apartment!" Hoshi whines and I hold my face in my hands, embarrassed.

"Wonwoo," Joshua groans, disappointed, but he only laughs in response.

"Sorry, but they deserved to know." Wonwoo laughs. 

"I feel like I am no longer innocent." Jun laughs and I blush harder. 

"I'm going to go," I say, interrupting their laughter. "I'll see you guys later." 

I fetch my jacket before leaving the apartment, dismissing their offers to be driven home. I'm so embarrassed right now. They don't live too far away, so it doesn't take long for me to reach my home. 

"Where have you been, Areum?" Is the first thing my dad asks when I walk through the door. 

"Joshua's," I respond shortly before walking into the living room where I see Dino sat with Jasmine. 

"Hey, guys." I say, sitting down on the sofa opposite them.

Ever since the fire, the company hasn't said anything on the topic of the fake relationship because Joshua's health is more important. Dino still doesn't know what was going to happen, but I suppose that's for the best. 

"Did you stay at Joshua's house last night?" Dino asks and I nod. 

"Yeah,"

"Did you two sort things out?" He asks, referring to when Joshua was upset and left the party.

"I guess you could say that." I chuckle and look down at the floor. 

The sound of the doorbell rings through the house and I'm quick to jump out of my chair and rush to the door. But when I open it, my blood runs cold and I wish I just ignored it. It's the police. 

"Miss Lee?" The woman asks and I nod, confused. "May we come inside?"

"Of course," I nod and lead her into the living room where Dino and Jasmine look up, surprised. 

My parents then walk into the room and sit beside me, both asking what's going on. 

"We've had a break in the investigation," the woman announces and I nod. "Do you know this woman?" 

She hands me a photo of a slightly blurry CCTV image and I look closely, narrowing my eyes in focus. As I look at the girl's face, I suddenly recognise her and nod adamantly. 

"Yes, I know her. What does this mean?" 

"We have reasons to believe she may have started the fire, not you. Do you have a name for us?"

Relief overwhelms me at her words. The fact that I may not be getting the blame for the fire is so relieving. 

"Her name is Kim Eui."
