Chapter 5

I'm not special, I'm limited edition

I sat across from Valentine as we continued our father-daughter glaring contest, neither one of us wanting to let the other win. We had been sitting like this for about 10 minutes now, ever since we sat down for what Valentine tried to call a 'civil' dinner but I was not going to eat anything he gave me. He took another bite of his steak before smiling." you have hardly eaten anything Marissa, you must be hungry after not eating in almost 24 hours"

" I'm not and even if I was, I don't trust you" I snapped crossing my arms. He frowned, a look of annoyance crossing his face." it's not poisoned, if that's what your afraid of"

" I'm not afraid of you" I mumbled and he smirked" but I know what you are afraid of Marissa. Your afraid of letting your abilities consume you but your also afraid to lose your sister"

" don't. Bring Clary into this" I told him making him chuckle as he finished his meal before he stood up and waked toward me. He reached toward me but I pulled away from his hand, only to hit the back of the chair. He tucked a strand of hair behind me my ear and I flinched at his touch." you have your mother's bravery" he told me before his hand curled around my throat causing me to struggle for air." but you also have her spirit, Marissa and I don't like it." he growled before I smirked" at least I'm not a coward like you" His eyes narrowed and he backhanded me across the face." growing up with your mother, has made you disrespectful but I believe that will change soon enough."

" The Seelie Queen mentioned that you did something to before I was even born, what did she mean" I asked and he motioned to the plate in front of me." eat and I will tell you" He walked back to his seat and sat down. I glanced at the plate before I did as I was told and ate. He smiled"  before you and Clarissa were born, I only knew of you. Your mother hid it very well but when you were born, I formed a plan to make you the best, I did something similar to Jonathan but I waited until you were born, seeing what effect it would have on you" he explained and I frowned before he smirked.

" I gave you warlock and Faerie blood, along with a bit of demon" I just stared at him like he was insane." your gifts did not show at first but before they did, your mother took you from me" I shook my head to lost for words, before I got up and went toward the door only to find it locked." When I found you last month, your gifts proved that I had succeeded in making the perfect experiment" I spun around glaring at him" you turned me into a freak" I yelled.

" 14 years of having to hide it, do you know difficult that is. I was two and you destroyed my whole life" as I ranted he was silent. Tears filled my eyes and I sank to the floor." I thought there was something wrong with me, I would watch the other kids and wonder if I was broken, but when mom told me about you, I knew what was wrong with me." I snapped my fingers and I smirked" I was the daughter of a monster, a broken soul that could never be fixed" as the doors unlocked and I took off running as I heard him yell along with a thud as he realized I had been stalling for my magic that had been slowly melting his shoes to the floor. I ran out onto the deck but stopped when I almost fell off the edge. In the distance, I could see the sun rising and smiled before spinning around to see a now free Valentine. He looked murderous as he glared at me with a smirk." there is no where left to run Marissa, your abilities are weakened from the ingredients in your food, I predict that they won't be back for a few more hours, long enough for me to make sure you never see the light of day again."

" that's where your wrong father" I  laughed before looking down at the water" I have the powers of an warlock, demon. And a faerie, remember" His eyes widened as I stepped off the boat and fell towards the water below, only to shot back up as pitch black wings fluttered. I smirked down at him, before I took off at an amazing speed toward the city and toward Luke's home. As I landed the wings disappeared as if they never existed and i ran inside causing everyone too look over mid bite as they their doughnuts. Jace seemed surprised on how I was here but smiled, knowing that I was fine now." and where have you been, Marissa Faye" Magnus asked glaring at me and I looked down like a scolded child not answering but luckily Jace got me out of trouble." she was following the trail of that demon" Magnus glanced from me to Jace and back again, causing me to nod and look like a bobble head figurine.

" alright, but as punishment Rissa does not get a doughnut"

" oh really Magnus" I said raising an eyebrow and snapping my fingers. A doughnut disappeared from the box and appeared in my hand. Everyone stared in shock at how quickly I had progressed since yesterday but I ignored their stares as I ate my doughnut. Though I couldn't help but think about what Valentine had told me.

Was I really that unique to other nephilum ?
